Last week we began trying out a new format for the Caroline Glick Show. Instead of having my opening remarks in the same video/podcast recording as the long form interview, we decided to divide them into two separate shows. Let me know what you think of this format at [email protected].

Last week’s guest was MK Simcha Rothman. As Chairman of the Knesset’s Constitution, Law and Justice Committee, together with Justice Minister Yariv Levin, Rothman has been the central actor in the coalition’s efforts to pass laws to reform the judiciary in a manner that will place limits on the power of Israel’s currently all-powerful, self-selecting Supreme Court.

After three months of often violent riots and demonstrations by the left, replete with calls to refuse to serve in the IDF and divest from Israel, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu suspended the legislative process and opted to seek a wide agreement with elements of the opposition through a behind the scenes deliberative process overseen by President Isaac Herzog.

Rothman and Glick discussed the nature and need for reform and what Rothman assesses the future holds for the effort. Rothman also discussed relations between U.S. Jewry and Israel, in light of efforts by the National Religious Party and other coalition members to reform the Law of Return.
