This week we were informed that Latma has won the 2011 Media Criticism Award presented by Israel Media Watch. Latma was chosen from among a field of eminently deserving candidates in a vote open to the public.

Not only did we win, we won by a landslide! According to Israel Media Watch President Meir Rozen, there were 4,600 votes cast online. We won and the second place contestant received just 600 votes, which means, with all due respect to our honorable competitors, that our victory is massive.

We thank the public for their support. The award ceremony will take place on February 20 at Beit Sokolov in Tel Aviv. For information about the award and the ceremony, check in with IMW’s website: www.imw.org.il.

Each year IMW gives the Abrramowitz Award for Media Criticism to two winners. I won the award in 2006 for my reporting on the withdrawal and expulsion from Gaza. This year was the first year that the public chose one of the winners. The other winner was chosen by a panel of judges. The second winner this year is my friend and colleague Khaled Abu Toameh from the Jerusalem Post. Khaled is the bravest and best reporter I know. I am proud to call him a friend, and proud to share the award with him.

Latma is funded through contributions to the Center for Security Policy in Washington. If you would like to support our efforts, you can contribute by clicking here. It takes you to the online contribution page to the Center for Security Policy through Network for Good. To earmark your donation to Latma, please write “Latma” in the box marked “designation.”

We are in the final stages of registering a non-profit organization here in Israel that will be able to accept donations for Latma from outside the US. I hope it won’t take more than a few weeks for me to give you the account information of the new group — The Zionist Incubator.

Thanks again for your support for Latma and its important work in developing a public discourse in Israel that is relevant to the challenges facing our country.

Caroline, I would have expected no less from you and the Latma team. The truth always wins out. Kudos to you and Khaled Abu Toameh for having the courage and strength of your convictions to tell it like it really is.
