This week on the Tribal Update, the satirical newscast produced every week by Latma, satirical the Hebrew-language media criticism website I run we focus on two issues: Supreme Court President Dorit Benisch’s retirement and coexistence between Arabs and Jews in Israel.

As many of you may know, Israel’s Supreme Court is one of the most radical, activist supreme courts in the Western world. Court President and radical leftist Dorit Benisch retired this week. Her retirement brings to an end her long career dedicated to politicizing the justice system first as a state prosecutor and then as a Supreme Court justice.

Last weekend two off-duty IDF soldiers were lynched by up to 20 Arabs outside of Rambam hospital in Haifa. One of the soldiers had the word “dog” inscribed in Arabic on his head. Both were viciously beaten. After the media initially ignored the story, they tried to play it down, pretending it was a case of mistaken identity. It took an Arab District judge at the suspects remand hearing to call the attack by its true name: an attempted lynch. We feature an interview with Arab MK Abdul Messit discussing the attack.

Translation note: In the final gag, the punchline relates to the word “haredim.” A haredi is an ultra-orthodox Jew. Hared means scared. (A Haredi is literally translated as fearing, as in “God fearing.) The punch is a play on the words because in Hebrew, the plural of scared, as in “they are scared” and the plural of Haredi is “haredim.”

Enjoy the show.
