American Jews have good reason to be ashamed and angry today. As Iran moves into the final stages of its nuclear weapons development program – nuclear weapons which it will use to destroy the State of Israel, endanger Jews around the world and cow the United States of America – Democratic American Jewish leaders decided that putting Sen. Barack Obama in the White House is more important than protecting the lives of the Jewish people in Israel and around the world.
On Monday, the New York Sun published the speech that Republican vice presidential nominee and Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin would have delivered at that day's rally outside UN headquarters in New York against Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and against Iran's plan to destroy Israel. She would have delivered it, if she hadn't been disinvited.
The rally was co-sponsored by the Conference of Presidents of Major Jewish Organizations, the National Coalition to Stop Iran Now, The Israel Project, United Jewish Communities, the UJA-Federation of New York and the Jewish Council for Public Affairs. Its purpose was to present a united American Jewish front against Iran's genocidal leader and against its genocidal regime which is developing nuclear weapons with the stated intention of committing the second Holocaust in 80 years.
Palin's speech is an extraordinary document. In its opening paragraph she made clear that Iran presents a danger not just to Israel, but to the US. And not just to some Americans, but to all Americans. Her speech was a warning to Iran – and anyone else who was listening – that Americans are not indifferent to its behavior, its genocidal ideology and the barbarity of its regime. Rather, they are outraged.
After that opening, Palin's speech set out clearly how Iran is advancing its nuclear project, why it must be prevented from acquiring nuclear weapons and why and how the regime itself must be opposed by all right thinking people – not just Israelis and Americans – but by all people who value human freedom.
PALIN'S SPEECH was a message of national – rather than simply Republican – resolve against Iran's nuclear weapons program and its active involvement in global and regional terrorism. She made this point by quoting statements that Democratic Sen. Hillary Clinton has made against the Iranian regime.
The speech detailed Iran's past and current attacks against the US, beginning with its bombing of US servicemen in Lebanon in 1983 and continuing with Iran's proxy war against US forces in Iraq and against Iraqis who oppose its intention of taking control of their country.
By discussing Iran's role in Iraq she not only made a convincing case for why an American victory there is essential for defeating Iran. She also made clear that Iran is actively making war against the US, not just Israel.
From Iran's war against Israel, the US, and freedom loving peoples worldwide, Palin's speech turned to the regime's war against its own people. She attacked the regime for its systematic repression of Iranian women. She applauded the extraordinary bravery of women like Delaram Ali who risked their lives and their families to demand basic rights for Iranian women. Ali, she noted, was sentenced to 10 lashes and three years in prison for having the courage to speak out. An international outcry has temporarily suspended her sentence.
Then Palin returned to Iran's nuclear weapons program and its support for terrorist groups pledged to Israel's destruction and to the destruction of the US. She returned to Ahmadinejad's calls for Israel's annihilation. She reiterated Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain's solemn promise to work with Israel to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons and she joined her name to his promise to stand side by side with Israel to prevent another Holocaust.
IF PALIN had been allowed to deliver this speech at Monday's rally, she would done just what the organizers of the rally, and what the Jewish people in Israel, America and worldwide need to have done. She would have elevated the imperative of preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons and the implicit moral and strategic imperative of overthrowing the regime in Teheran to the top of America's national security agenda. Given the massive media attention she garners at all of her public appearances, Palin's participation in the rally would have done more to steel Americans – across the political spectrum – to the cause of opposing Iran than 10 UN Security Council sanctions resolutions could do.
It was a remarkable speech, prepared by a remarkable woman. But it was not heard. It was not heard because the Democratic Party and Jewish Democrats believe that their partisan interest in demonizing Palin and making Americans generally and American Jews in particular hate and fear her to secure their votes for Obama and his running-mate Sen. Joseph Biden in the November election is more important than allowing Palin to elevate the necessity of preventing a second Holocaust to the top of the US's national security agenda.
The rally's organizers invited both Clinton and Palin to speak. It was a wise move. In light of Iran's monstrous oppression of Iranian women, had the two most powerful women in American politics joined forces in opposing the regime and its war against human freedom, their appearance would have sent a message of American unity and resolve that would have reverberated not just throughout the US and in the US presidential race, but throughout the world and into Iran itself. But it was not to be.
The moment that Clinton found out that she was to share a stage with Palin, she cancelled her appearance. By cancelling, she signaled to Jewish Democrats – and Democrats in general – that opposing Palin and the Republican Party is more important than opposing Ahmadinejad and the genocidal regime he represents.
THE JEWISH Democrats on the rally's organizing committee got the message loud and clear. Two of the rally's co-sponsors – the Jewish Council for Public Affairs and the UJA Federation of New York demanded that the Conference of Presidents of Major Jewish Organizations disinvite Palin.
The JCPA is led by Steven Gutow. Before joining the JCPA, he served as the founding executive director of the National Jewish Democratic Council, which is the Jewish support arm of the Democratic Party. The UJA Federation of New York is led by John Ruskay, who began his Jewish communal career as an anti-Israel "peace" activist in the radical CONAME and Breira organizations. Among their other endeavors, CONAME and Breira opposed US military assistance to Israel during the Yom Kippur War and called for US recognition of the PLO after the group massacred 26 children in Ma'alot in 1974.
Gutow and Ruskay were supported in their demand to disinvite Palin by the National Jewish Democratic Council and by the new Jewish pro-Palestinian lobbying group J-Street.
In an attempt to assuage Gutow and Ruskay, the rally organizers invited Biden to speak. But he had a scheduling conflict. So the organizers contacted the Obama campaign and asked it to send a representative. The campaign offered Congressman Robert Wexler.
But the Democrats knew that Wexler would be no match for Palin. So they continued on the warpath, absurdly claiming that by inviting Palin (and Clinton, Biden and Wexler), the organizers were endangering the sponsoring organizations' tax-exempt status. That is, through Ruskay and Gutow, in their bid to prevent Palin from appearing at the rally, the Democrats threatened to bring down the organized Jewish community.
Never mind that the threat is absurd. The likelihood that the Internal Revenue Service would open an investigation against every major American Jewish organization for daring to invite Palin to a rally opposing Ahmadinejad's appearance at the UN and Iran's stated intention of annihilating Israel is just slightly smaller than t
he prospect of Ahmadinejad wrapping himself in an Israeli flag and singing "Hatikva" on the UN rostrum.
But no matter. The fear that these Democratic Jews would openly split the Jewish community on the need to confront Iran frightened the organizers. The notion that the Democratic Party, and its Jewish supporters would openly turn their backs on the need to confront Iran to advance the political fortunes of their party and their party's presidential slate was too much to take. Palin was disinvited.
LIBERAL AMERICAN Jews, like liberal Americans in general, and indeed like their fellow leftists in Israel and throughout the West, uphold themselves as champions of human rights. They claim that they care about the underdog, the wretched of the earth. They care about the environment. They care about securing American women's unfettered access to abortions. They care about keeping Christianity and God out of the public sphere. They care about offering peace to those who are actively seeking their destruction so that they can applaud themselves for their open-mindedness and tell themselves how much better they are than savage conservatives.
Those horrible, war-mongering, Bambi killing, unborn baby defending, God-believing conservatives, who think that there are things worth going to war to protect, must be defeated at all costs. They must intimidate, attack, demonize and defeat those conservatives who think that the free women of the West should be standing shoulder to shoulder not with Planned Parenthood, but with the women of the Islamic world who are enslaved by a misogynist Shari'a legal code that treats them as slaves and deprives them of control not simply of their wombs, but of their faces, their hair, their arms, their legs, their minds and their hearts.
The lives of 6 million Jews in Israel are today tied to the fortunes of those women, to the fortunes of American forces in Iraq, to the willingness of Americans across the political and ideological spectrum to recognize that there is more that unifies them than divides them and to act on that knowledge to defeat the forces of genocide, oppression, hatred and destruction that are led today by the Iranian regime and personified in the brutal personality of Ahmadinejad. But Jewish Democrats chose to ignore this basic truth in order to silence Palin.
They should be ashamed. The Democratic Party should be ashamed. And Jewish American voters should consider carefully whether opposing a woman who opposes the abortion of fetuses is really more important than standing up for the right of already born Jews to continue to live and for the Jewish state to continue to exist. Because this week it came to that.

I have never been one for prayer. I have always believed in the power of reason. My reason tells me to pray for Israel.
The thing about jihadism is it gets stronger when it is victorious, it gets stronger when it is left alone – but, seemingly against all logic – it gets stronger when it is defeated. The world did not face such a beast in the faces of Mussolini, Hitler, Mao or Stalin.
In the beginning was the word.
What will remain in the end?
I used to believe the answer to the riddle was “The letters of men.”
Today, I am beginning to believe that the answer to the riddle will be “The whips of the slavers.”
Have I arrived in the fight too late CG?
Sadly, neo-liberals hijacked the party of former US Presidents: Andrew Jackson, Franklin Roosevelt, Harry Truman, and John Kennedy. The current Democratic Party is long past its glory days since left-wing radicals emasculated it. Unfortunately, partisanship from both parties is destabilizing the United States, and causing a distraction from important matters. Rescinding Governor Palin’s speaking invitation at the anti-nuke/fascist rally against Iran’s Anti-Semitic president was cowardly and hypocritical. It’s time for neo-libs to defend Israel, who is America’s genuine friend, and underdog in the Middle East, before its too late.
Maybe we have become too amoral and stupid to survive and we go the way of all once great nations.
I think many of those who put their selfish rights above anything else have sealed their own doom. They have spoken and God has heard.
It’s possible that the West and Israel in particular have become too perverse and stupid to survive and do more harm to themselves than their enemies do.
What is easy to see in Israel and the West is decay everywhere, only the proud are too blind to see it.
Killing babies in offering to the god
of pleasure, (Molech) led to Israel’s earlier demise and the people learn nothing from this self centered and perverse lifestyle.
Our enemies see our pathetic condition and are encouraged to make the final move.
We prove we are our own worst enemies and have no one to blame but ourselves.
Caroline,
You dissected the Liberal world view issue perfectly: the entire world must burn and women world wide must suffer so American woman can have abortions, and Christians are outlawed.
America has a substantial Evangelical Christian population who literally believe Ezekiel 36-37 and will not dishonor their LORD. Many, like me, will give their lives to obey the LORD, our G*D to protect and care for Israel, and would do more every day, if we had better understanding of Israel’s needs.
Yet, these Christians are under excessive attacks by Liberals and every segment of the State they gain control of. Their vicious and fraudulent treatment of Sarah Palin demonstrates the extremism and irrationality of their attacks.
It must be understood that these liberal groups want nothing less except than the total destruction of Christianity.
So, Israel must carefully view the actions of American Liberals including the American Jewish organizations for what they are. Sadly, and ironically, however they treat Evangelical Christians, is the measure of the grave risk of abandonment to Israel, and/or Appeasement to its foes.
Liberals believe and support Appeasement in all forms, almost to the degree of forcing abortions, which is their fundamental cornerstone dogma. You and Israel fully understand the risk of Appeasement.
Please know that regardless of the challenges to American Evangelicals, that every day, and every night they and their children pray earnestly for the safety and protection Israel and all Israelis and that Israel does fulfill G*D’s Will in its heart and spirit.
While we differ in the belief in whether our Jewish Messiah has come already, or is to come, we are a kindred and bonded spirit of faith with the Israeli remnant who is always faithful and trusting in the LORD.
Therefore, as we pray daily and nightly for you, please take a moment to pray for us. As one travails, so does the other.
Blessings!
THANK YOU Caroline once again for your laser clarity. I agree 100%!
Standing for God
In eternity past, IF the omniscient Creator peered forward in time to the evening of September 26, 2008 He would have foreseen an intriguing juxtaposition. First, He would have noted in buildings and homes scattered around the globe, groups of His followers pouring over the Nitzavim Torah portion as the “teshuvah” (returning) Hebrew month of Elul was coming to a close. These sincere followers of the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob would be discussing some of the concluding chapters of the Book of Deuteronomy and, in particular, considering the portion named “standing” in English.
Many of these God-fearing people would be preparing their hearts for Yom Teruah (Day of Blowing), a day that has traditionally became Rosh Hashannah or head of the year on the Hebrew calendar. This appointed time commences the first of Tishri followed by the “Ten Days of Awe” that precede the solemn convocation of Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement) observed on the tenth of Tishri.
Coincidentally, on that same evening in Oxford, Mississippi, the Almighty would have noted two men standing in classic debating postures expressing their views, opinions, and beliefs in their eager attempts to convince the American electorate that they are the best candidate to lead the free world as President of the United States. This convergence of events is fascinating because one of the most noteworthy parts of the Nitzavim portion is the fact that Moses was not only speaking to the nation of Israel as it gathered on the plains of Moab, but also addressing the future generations that will pursue the one true God of Creation:
“Now not with you alone am I making this covenant and this oath, but both with those who stand here with us today in the presence of the LORD our God and with those who are not with us here today” (Deuteronomy 29:14-15).
Do you believe in coincidences?
Can you see that a sovereign Creator has once again brought together circumstances that clearly depict His influence on the affairs of mankind?
Are these circumstances timed to get our collective attention?
Is it possible that the modern day nation founded on Judeo-Christian principles who is the State of Israel’s staunchest defender is once again being tested to determine with Whom we will stand when we choose our leaders?
Is it not interesting that one candidate claims allegiance to the Judeo-Christian God while the other debater is more comfortable with a more “generic God” who is approachable through a variety of faith systems?
Do you remember the adage “united we stand, divided we fall” attributed to Aesop, but obviously a Biblical principle with practical national ramifications depending on whether a people is united or divided?
As we hurdle through time, can you see the religious, political, economic, social, generational, racial, and even gender divisions in our society that are being used as wedges to bring us down as a nation?
While considering this interesting set of circumstances and the thought provoking questions that ensued, a proverb came to mind regarding God’s handiwork with the hearts of those who lead nations and, in particular, kings:
“The king’s heart is like channels of water in the hand of the LORD; He turns it wherever He wishes. Every man’s way is right in his own eyes, but the LORD weighs the hearts. To do righteousness and justice is desired by the LORD more than sacrifice” (Proverbs 21:1-3).
It appears from this Proverb that the Lord is indeed involved in the affairs of mankind as He moves king’s hearts in different directions, even though flawed men believe that their ways are justified in their own eyes.
We know from Biblical history that the Lord can turn the king’s heart in ways that favor God’s people as were the cases with King Ahasuerus of Persia and King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon. On the other hand, God can allow disfavor toward the children of God by the likes of Pharoah of Egypt or Balak of Moab.
Somehow through it all, God’s will for His people is STILL always accomplished.
If you took the time to read the Books of Esther regarding King Ahasuerus, the Book of Daniel regarding King Nebuchadnezzar, the Book of Exodus regarding Pharoah, and the Book of Numbers regarding King Balak, you would note different responses and reactions by the children of Israel to these kings.
Some were prompted to fast and pray (Esther and Daniel). Others simply cried out to God for mercy (Israelites under Pharaoh’s rule). Still others grumbled and complained about the consequences of actions taken by the kings and/or leaders (Moses and Aaron) over them. Some of the Israelites even succumbed to the temptations that were attempting to destroy them (Balaam’s advise that is implemented by Balak).
So for Believers who claim to be the Israel of God that live in the modern era, there are multiple examples of how the forefathers of our faith reacted to the circumstances of their respective challenges. You might be asking yourself what you can do when you witness things aligning that are clearly evidence that God is still in control of the affairs of mankind.
Options for action clearly present themselves. You can fast and pray, you can cry out for mercy, you can complain or you can fall prey to the temptation to follow the wiles of the enemy doing what is right in your own eyes, remembering that the Holy One is mindful of what are the motivations of your heart.
Therefore, in this season of teshuvah, personal introspection and reflection, I would recommend that you turn to Him in prayer, fasting, and with heartfelt cries for mercy on this divided nation.
Standing for God is an action that makes us effectual doers of the Word, not just forgetful hearers.
“But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks at his natural face in a mirror; for once he has looked at himself and gone away, he has immediately forgotten what kind of person he was. But one who looks intently at the perfect law, the law of liberty, and abides by it, not having become a forgetful hearer but an effectual doer, this man will be blessed in what he does” (James 1:22-25).
Stand and be heard or better yet, fall on your face asking for mercy, for such a providential time as this!
There are more and more Jewish organizations that don’t speak for me, yet they are the loudest. I am embarrassed to tears by their phony concern for humanity and their egotistical drivel on my behalf. And yet Israeli politicians and self-righteous communist media are 100 times worse. God help us! Caroline, thank you for your insight and your courage!
Oh to have Caroline Glick head the government of Israel, and Sarah Palin head of the USA!!! Terrorist, jhadists, liberals, dictators, all those who seek to enslave and destroy others would be looking for the nearest cave in which to hide. From my mouth to G-d’s ear! SHALOM
Thank you for what you are doing. Where can I read Sarah Palins speach that was to be given at the rally?
Roy
Once upon a time, “liberalism” was not a bad thing. It is not Karl Rove or Rush Limbaugh who changed that, no matter how much some Democrats want to believe this.
I’m not a keen enough observer to figure out exactly why, but in general Americans and Europeans (for different reasons) have adopted a “whatever” passivity to each and every moral challenge that comes their way. That’s why I find it very encouraging to see people like you and Palin speak out. You’re not a prophet, but you do have a duty to use all your G-d-given abilities to speak out loud and clear. I’m sure you’re well aware that your efforts to wage battle through your articles are a much greater contribution toward the defense of the Jewish people than your IDF service (which I certainly don’t mean to belittle). Keep up the good work.
I am very conflicted and don’t know whom to vote for. This essay has me leaning to McCain.
Are we glorifying the same Sarah Palin who worships at a church where a guest recently had the nerve to preach that a Palestinian bulldozer attack against Israeli citizens was God’s judgement? The same Sarah Palin who espouses the same religious ideologies as Ann Coulter (as in, “Jews are unperfected Christians” Ann Coulter)?
I’d be worried about the future of my country too if I had friends like Sarah Palin.
Governor Palin’s UN speech can be found here:

God bless Israel.
“the same Sarah Palin who worships at a church where a guest recently had the nerve to preach that a Palestinian bulldozer attack against Israeli citizens was God’s judgement?” Her church is pro-Israel unlike Barack Hussein Obama’s wifes anti semitic and racist church which is offficially anti-Israel
Barack Obama is what the US, Israel and this world needs. Fortitude, vision, know-how, and compassion, that is Barack Obama.
It is time for REAL change, not the same old finger pointing and cycle of violence.
We need strong leadership, new leadership that is above the same old tricks and scandals of the Republican Party.
I have heard enough of Sarah Palin’s speeches. Besides already being entrenched in the “troopergate” corruption blasphemy, her policies are simply inane. A bridge to nowhere being the prime example and her position against abortion, even in cases of rape or incest, being the most extreme example.
Sarah Palin is completely unqualified to run this county. She was governor of a state with less people than Kansas City and the decisions she has been faced with up until now amount to all lipstick and no substance.
Enough is enough, its time for a Democrat, not a third term Republican. No more 100 Year War. No more bad economy. No more lies and scandal. No more excuses and scapegoating.
Its time to get someone in power that can do well for Israel, not pay it lip service or send it Condoleezza Rice. We need someone that will protect Israel’s interests and bring us closer to eternal peace and security. A person like Mccain could never do it; its just too tall an order.
Give us hope, give us life, give us Barack Obama 2008!!!!!!!!

What in the world makes Sara Palin a remarkable person. Is it the multiple colleges she went to and the great morals that she instilled into her family. Maybe its the sub par job she did as a sports anchor. The republican party should be ashamed of itself. She is not the best the party has to offer. If anyone honestly thinks that she is the most qualified pro life neo-conservative in the republican party they are plain and simply lying to themselves. To all the undecieded voters out there, the choice is clear. A vote for Obama is a vote for a new future and a vote for Mccain is a vote for the past. If having a college degree is a bad thing vote for Mccain. I for one see nothing wrong with electing the elite of society to run this country if you disagree vote for Mccain and have a beer with him and his hockey mom VP.
sorry if I am repeating —BO’s mentors and advisors are anti-Jewish or anti-Israeli or both ..BO and the D party will throw Israel under the bus at the first opportunity — Dear Ms. Glick thx for taking the time to talk to us..
Caroline Glick abandoned this country to live in another. Her choice.
What right does she have to urge the country she chose to desert to fight an aggressive and illegal war against Iran, in order to protect her adopted country?
Caroline,
History has never been kind to Jews. Wasn’t it Moses who broke the tablets….and did he get a rewrite…as he freaked out at all his tribe who where back worshiping idols in his absence?
My 19th century more modern study of Heinrich Heine, a wealthy son of merchants who gave up his faith to embrace protestantism…a poet who my thesis had claimed a strict adherence and reverence for G.F. Hegel, the Prussian State Philosopher, and inspiration for the thesis, antithesis, synthesis process in just about everything. So we shouldn’t all agree…but we should allow those to be heard…US 1st amendment, eh what?
Heine also predicted a Hilter would emerge because the economic aparteid of Germany wouldn’t always be so cheery for the merchant and lending class…the jews. And so it was the economy, stupid that ushered in a Hitler, who was voted in against a more communist and who would take from the jews everything…so a small country…some say was only 6 months too late to develop the atomic bomb…or it would have won…it had the missles, the jets and delivery systems…..sounds like Iran….grinning to await our disassociating arguments…to do nothing….to hear nothing and then his attack by any of his surrogates would end everything as we know it.
And these same Jews who would silence any debate against the existing order (as if this moment were enough that a Faust would say…moment linger…to risk his doom), would also support Barack Hussein Obama to be president, the former muslim child, son of a leftist muslim, having attended a muslim school in his formative years…and then sent away from his mother and stepfather.
The National Enquirer says it has proof that Obama is a Muslim…oh surprise…a fox in the henhouse….oh and here’s another $700 billion to keep the banks making us cheap loans on Hummers and Drywall McMansions which melt in the next storm….
Yes, history ain’t so nice to the Jews…but then history isn’t about nice…it’s about survival…it’s about a fragile relationship with the cosmos where at best you only get a fogy rearview mirror. To quote….To say…He is a man of truth…is to say nothing. But to say…..He is a man of of….is to state an elementary truth of logic. by Winston Davids, Valedictorian Trinity College, CT 1970.
hIStory IS.
Oh, and as for Abortion…that destroys history… And it does seem to many…the choice to cling to life seems to dim after all the abortions, suicide terror, and other innocents murdered without consequence. Again is it that tender balance with the cosmos that we must preserve.
Caroline,
Great article! The people who attacked you obviously get all of their news from CNN and are sadly very ignorant when it comes to politics, current events, and the sanctity of human life.
For example, according to a recent article in Human Events, it was the Democrats who pressured Jewish groups to pull Sarah Palin’s invitation to speak at the rally. Reports surfaced yesterday that Democrats actually threatened Jewish groups with investigations and the loss of their tax-exempt status if they allowed Palin to speak at the rally. In the wake of this controversy, the rally was a monumental flop.
The Jewish Action Alliance in concert with other organizations have regrouped and are protesting a dinner hosted by Hyatt heir and Obama finance chair Penny Pritzker at her Grand Hyatt Hotel honoring Iranian President Mahmoud “Israel is a stinking corpse” Ahmadinejad. Is this change we can believe in?
Neo-liberals have a double standard. It’s okay for them to express their opinions, but if someone from the Judeo-Christian fold expresses their opinions, look out! All of those people who attacked you are hypocrites and ought to be ashamed of themselves. It’s people like that who will ultimately help to destroy America, Israel, and the West.
The following is a link to the article:
http://www.humanevents.com/article.php?id=28698
To expect American Jews to put Israel ahead of their love of abortion is Herculaen. During the Holocaust the silence of American Jewry was deafening, but the love of FDR was more important. Yes , there were exceptions- the 400 Rabbis who marched on DC in ’43 and the Bergsonites, but America’s Jews were an embarrasment. Outside of the orthos and a few other tokens,America’s Jews have not changed.
Caroline, You are simply not going to believe this. My husband posted your article (which btw is absolutely brilliant) on a message board of his high school friends who have stayed closely in touch for more than 40 years. They are for the most part, educated liberal American Jews now in their late 50s or early 60s.
Here’s one response (brace yourself):
I’m a little confused here. Let’s follow the scenario that Iran decides to Nuke Israel. I don’t understand why this would be a real-world action Iran would take, but let’s assume it is.
What do you suppose the next action would be? I’ll give you a hint. In the parlance of the U.S. military, “Iran would be neutralized”. Millions would be killed. More millions would suffer a horrible fate. The effect on the global environment would be devastating and possibly irreversible. The fabric of Iranian society would be in complete chaos. So what exactly is their motive? And please spear me the idiotic commentary that they are crazy. They are not. They have their own self interests as we do. They have their own fears as we do. They have their own hidden agendas, as we do. If you want to come to a compromise with your perceived “enemy” you need to understand their perspectives and fears. You don’t need to agree with them, just understand them. You don’t do what the Bush administration does when it make the very thing to be negotiated a pre-condition for negotiation.
Only a child sees everything in black and white, good and evil. After 9-11 Bush said standing at the Would Trade Center site, “You are either with us or with the terrorists”. That is a false dichotomy. It is this kind of thinking that has brought this country to the precipice, and may very well be our epitaph.
Even in Sun Tzu’s “The Art of War”, the first principle is don’t go to war in the first place.
What a shocking reality: American Jews are Democrats because they want the unlimited right to abortion? They want to elect as president the most pro-abortion public official in the United States, who has pledged to Planned Parenthood that he will work for and sign a bill removing all restrictions on all abortions, even partial birth abortions, which Congress has banned and 75% of the American public oppose. That Jewish Democrats hold the unfettered right to kill unborn babies as more important than protecting the lives of Jews in Israel and throughout the world is sickening.
Obama has shown he is a narcissist of the first order and only cares about himself and his rise to eminence. His rote comments about Israel cannot be trusted. In Berlin he called for all walls between Muslims and Jews to be pulled down and then there would be peace. Such naivete or cynicism is frightening as are his past expressions of sympathy for the Palestinian “cause.”
Caroline, your article had my emotions swirling like an angry hurricane, and then it dawned on me: that’s what a fine piece of writing does, it stirs things up. Good work!
