I’m a liberal Jew from the US who works pretty hard to represent both sides to a constituency largely but not exclusively made up of liberals from many faiths. I think I have a pretty good sense of humor. But given nine people died and many Israelis as well as Palestinians were wounded I have trouble finding this satire funny. But the world is full of many things. The problem is, while I know you are right not to take it all so ominously serious, if I showed this to any of my friends they’d consider it appalling and point to it as one more reason to think of Israel NEGATIVELY!

The Israeli Foriegn Ministry should be singing backup for these guys, since it was their deliberate plan to help embarrass Israel’s government diplomatically. There can be no other explanation as to why the Foreign Ministry opposed the Israel public relations effort immediately following the flotilla being commandeered.
I just loved teh clip. Humor helps a lot to get over my anger caused by the hypocricy of the press and comments i have read in the press and seen on TV in Germany (where I live) and in online media in Denmark (my home land).

Ridicule is just what is needed here. The world’s reaction has been insane on this so actual, reasonable argument is impossible. And what is there to debate? A country has the right to protect its boarders. The thing that I have only heard scant information about is that Egypt is somehow in on this blockade too because they have an interest in keeping weapons from getting into Gaza.

It is hard to say what is good and what is bad.

As an Arab I often get flack for defending Israel’s right to defend itself against hostile neighbors. I think that Israel is the rightful home of the Jewish people and they have every right to defend themselves. However, I think that Palestinians also have rights and they are suffering greatly, and a majority of the blame for this rests squarely on Hamas’ shoulders. This “satirical” video is insensitive and plays right into the hands of groups like Hamas and other anti-semetic people who are always quick to demonize Israel and blame them for all the problems in the region.

I’ve posted “We Con” on my website and sent it to all of my contacts, which includes Tea Party contacts on a national level here in the U.S. The Tea Party and Sarah Palin are staunch supporters of Israel.

Humor can be a lethal weapon. Here in France, where I’m surrounded by peaceful travelers taking to the streets and shouting “Death to the Jews”, and by biased media, this video made me feel less alone.

I apologise for the partially duplicated comment; I edited my original remarks to clarify them after noticing a commenter who appeared to feel this was in bad taste. It isn’t. Exposing propaganda is a vital function of comedy. If I ever die in similar circumstances, I hope someone will mock the real culprits as ably as you did here. You ably skewered them; I found myself unable to laugh only because so many idiots still accept their con as real. I feel as though I’m living in the 1930s.
As a Turk who considers himself a friend of Israel I found this video to be tasteless. Ultimately it will only serve to stoke hatred, animosity etc between Turks and Jews – and if that is what you want then fine but if not then why do it?
We need level headed people on both sides. Don’t destroy a friendship that has endured for centuries.

Might you get this published somewhere other than YouTube? YouTube is blocked in Turkey (my location). I got to the site through a proxy and, with just a little trouble, found the video, but not everyone wants to bother with that. If they could just get straight to it with one click, more people here would see it.
FYI most of the secular Turks I live and work amongst take a balanced view of this incident and are annoyed with the IHH and the government, which they think encouraged the flotilla’s sailing for reasons of its own, for dragging Turkey into this confrontation with Israel.
If YouTube hadn’t already been blocked by a secular minded court for a video insulting Ataturk, I’m sure the Islamist government would somehow get it blocked for your video.

But now thinking about it a little more and seeing the response the video is getting, I have come to the conclusion that truth is the best weapon Israel has in the media war. And satire is the best way to convey the truth. And we Jews are the best in the world at satire.

“We Are The World” has been parodied again and again since it was released in the 1980s. Some of the more notable parodies came from Saturday Night Live, both recently and in the 1990s, Weird Al Yankovic, and the “In Living Color” crew. There are countless others out there. The themes of the parodies range from awareness of music file sharing to finding jobs for unemployed celebrities.
Then there are the countless parodies of the song’s co-author, Michael Jackson.
Singling out “We Con the World” and labeling it as insensitive to a famine in the 1980s just doesn’t fly.

Awesome video. Brilliant work and the message is spot on. One thing I’ve notices on youtube is the Jew haters are using this video for their continued hate agenda. Some have even chopped up the video and inserted non-sense clips to retort the various phrase. I’ve emailed links of your video to my conservative friends both Jewish and Gentile. I’ve watched it about half a dozen times. You are dead on about CNN being a prime consumer of the PLO/Hamas propaganda and dead on about there being no desire for facts especially from the Left side of America.

My son was very disappointed today when I told him I would show him the video but YOUTUBE has removed it. I heard an interviewer ask Lenny Solomon (AKA Schlock Rock) if it is legally problematic to record famous rock tunes with his Jewish themes. He responded that it was legal under the criteria of “Legal Parody”. If this is true, “We Con the World” could only be a copy right violation if it is TRUE. If it’s a parody, no problem. I loved the video. Israel has my undying support as an American. But I am deeply saddened that the video has been copyrighted. This is an important and critical message that has now become tethered. Many will not see this message of truth because of someone’s need to make money. Whatever else is for sale it should not be this message.

Now all you get when you go there is this: “This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by Warner/ Chappell Music, Inc.” It’s more likely because so many people were getting the truth from it! Anything you can do?
I see that you’ve taken down the video due to copyright claims. At least in the United States, parody is NOT a violation of copyright. In particular, there’s a case about the song “Pretty Woman” that was parodied in a rap, and the court held it was not an infringement…the law is readily available on google. There are many cases on this. You might want to consult a lawyer because the video was quite powerful.

Either way, both people, and conglomerates, should be careful what they wish for, because they might get it. Time-Warner, by greasing palms of the right government officials over several decades, has become one of the largest media companies on the planet. But if their customers get the impression that they are trying to stifle free speech, and retaliate with a worldwide boycott, how long would it take for Time-Warner to become one of the smallest? Divestiture works in mysterious ways!

I have a friend living in Israel. He sent me a link tothe video. I have watched it at least 20 times and I find it hilarious.
I love the video. Everyone is so talented. Regarding the legal issues, try to find as many copies as possible of prior parodies of the song. Speak to many copyright attorneys (there are attorneys who specialize in internet issues)to make sure that most agree on the subject. Keep expressing the voice of reasonable people throughout the world.
