The perils ahead

US President-elect Barack Obama has properly sought to maintain a low profile in foreign affairs in this transition period ahead of his January inauguration. But while Obama has stipulated that the US can have only one president at a time, his aides and advisers are signaling that he intends to move US foreign policy in a sharply different direction from its current trajectory once he assumes office.

And they are signaling that this new direction will be applied most immediately and directly to US policy toward the Middle East.

Early in the Democratic Party's primary season, the Obama campaign released a list of the now-president-elect's foreign policy advisers to The Washington Post. The list raised a great deal of concern in policy circles, particularly among supporters of the US-Israel alliance. It included outspoken critics of Israel such as Zbigniew Brzezinski, who served as national security adviser under president Jimmy Carter, and Robert Malley, who served as a junior Middle East aide to president Bill Clinton. Both men are deeply hostile to Israel and both have called repeatedly for the US to end its strategic alliance with Israel.

In the months that followed the list's publication, the Obama campaign sought to distance itself from both men as the president-elect's advisers worked to position Obama as a centrist candidate.

Brzezinski was cast aside in February when he headed a delegation to Syria to meet with President Bashar Assad. The purpose of his "fact-finding" mission was to castigate the Bush administration for its refusal to pursue Syria as an ally, and to decry Damascus's international isolation caused by its support for the insurgency in Iraq, its strategic alliance with Iran, its support for Hizbullah as well as Hamas and al-Qaida, its illicit nuclear program and its subversion of the pro-Western Lebanese government.

To Brzezinski's dismay, his mission was overtaken by events. The depth of Syria's support for terror was graphically displayed during his visit when arch-Iranian/Lebanese terrorist Imad Mughniyeh was killed in Damascus the day after he called on Assad.

Although he was a junior staffer in Clinton's National Security Council, since 2000 Malley has used his Clinton administration credentials to pave his emergence as one of America's most outspoken apologists for Palestinian terrorism against Israel. Immediately after the failed July 2000 Camp David peace summit, Malley invented the Palestinian "narrative" of the summit's proceedings. While Clinton, then-prime minister Ehud Barak, and Ambassador Dennis Ross, who served as Clinton's chief negotiator, have all concurred that Yasser Arafat torpedoed the prospects of peace when he refused Barak's offer of Palestinian statehood, Malley claimed falsely that Israel was to blame for the failure of the talks.

In succeeding years, he has expanded his condemnation of Israel. He insists that not only Palestinian aggression, but Syrian, Lebanese and Iranian attacks against Israel are all Israel's fault. The Obama campaign distanced itself from Malley in May after the Times of London reported that he was meeting regularly with Hamas terror leaders.

As the election drew closer, the Obama campaign expanded its efforts to present its candidate as a foreign policy moderate. Moderate foreign policy advisers such as Ross were paraded before reporters. Both Obama and his surrogates insisted that he supports a strong American alliance with Israel. Obama abandoned his earlier pledge to withdraw all US forces from Iraq by 2010. He attempted to temper and later deny his public pledge to hold direct negotiations with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad without preconditions.

Due in large part to media credulousness, Obama's new image as a centrist was widely accepted by the public. And it is likely that he owes a significant portion of his support in the American Jewish community to the campaign's success in distancing Obama from men like Brzezinski and Malley.

BUT NOW that the campaign is over, it appears that as his critics warned, Obama's moves toward the center on issues relating to the Middle East were little more than campaign tactics to obscure his true policy preferences.

Two days after his election, Washington Post columnist David Ignatius gave a sense of the direction in which Obama will likely take US foreign policy. And, apparently directed by Obama's campaign staff, Ignatius based much of his column on his belief that Obama's foreign policy views have been shaped by his "informal" adviser, Brzezinski.

Based on what Brzezinski and Obama's "official" campaign told him, Ignatius wrote that the two major issues where Obama's foreign policy is likely to diverge from Bush's right off the bat are Israel and Iran. Obama, he claimed, will want to push hard to force Israel to come to an agreement with the Palestinians as soon as he comes into office. As for Iran, Obama plans to move immediately to improve US relations with the nuclear-weapons-building ayatollahs.

As for Malley, an aide of his told Frontpage magazine this week that acting on Obama's instructions, Malley traveled to Cairo and Damascus after Obama's electoral victory to tell Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and Assad that "the Obama administration would take into greater account Egyptian and Syrian interests."

In a related story, Hamas terror operative Ahmad Youssef told the London-based Al-Hayat newspaper that in the months leading up to his election, Obama's advisers held steady contacts with the leaders of the terror group in Gaza, and had asked that Hamas keep the meetings secret in order not to harm Obama's chances of being elected.

Both Obama's transition team and Hamas leaders were quick to deny Youssef's statements. Yet, together with the earlier Times of London story about Malley's contacts with Hamas and the new revelations about Malley serving as Obama's unofficial Middle East envoy, the Al-Hayat report has the ring of truth.

Even more foreboding than these reports are statements by Obama's foreign policy advisers regarding his plans to open direct contacts with Iran. On Wednesday The Washington Post reported that Obama intends to move quickly to seek an accommodation with Iran regarding Afghanistan. Obama's advisers assert that such a deal is possible because as far as they are concerned, the Shi'ite Iranians oppose Sunni jihadists just as much as the US does.

But the facts do not support this view. Top US and British military commanders have asserted repeatedly that Iran is a major sponsor of the Taliban and al-Qaida in their war against the Afghan government and NATO forces in the country. Since 2006, Iran has provided advanced weapons, money and political support to the Taliban and al-Qaida insurgents in the country.

The Obama team's rejection of the demonstrated reality of Iran's support for the Taliban and al-Qaida in favor of a policy based on the fantasy that it is possible to cut a deal with the ayatollahs will undoubtedly not be his last move in the mullahs' direction. It will likely be quickly followed by an offer to conduct direct, high level talks with Iran's leaders about their nuclear weapons program.

What is most disturbing about Obama's emerging foreign policy is not simply that it ignores the reality on the ground – a reality that clearly demonstrates that Iran and its Syrian, Palestinian and Lebanese surrogates are implacable foes of Israel and America and therefore not interested in being appeased. It is also not just the fact that it sends a signal of American weakness to Iran and its proxies just as Iran reaches the nuclear threshold. And Obama's emerging foreign policy is not merely disconcerting because by speaking with Iran and its proxies, Obama will be legitimizing the genocidal reg
ime in Teheran.

WHAT IS most alarming about Obama's emerging foreign policy toward Iran and its proxies on the one hand and Israel on the other is that it will cause actual harm to the Jewish state.

By pressuring Israel to cede land to Syria and the Palestinians, Obama's apparent foreign policy will provide Iran with still more territory from which to attack Israel both through its terror proxies and with its expanding ballistic missile arsenal. By embracing the Syrian regime in spite of its support for terrorism, its nuclear proliferation activities and its subversion of Lebanon, the incoming Obama administration will embolden Syria to increase its subversion of Lebanon and Iraq, while strengthening its ties to Iran still further.

As for direct talks with Iran itself, the question immediately arises, what could Obama offer Teheran in exchange for an end to its nuclear program that Bush hasn't already offered?

What it can offer is Israel.

Over the past few years, Obama's top nuclear nonproliferation adviser, Joe Cirincione, has repeatedly advocated placing Israel's nuclear arsenal on the negotiating table and offering it up in exchange for an Iranian pledge to end its nuclear program. Defense Secretary Robert Gates – whom Obama is considering retaining – insinuated in his 2006 confirmation hearings that Iran is only building nuclear weapons to defend itself against Israel. Gates, it should be recalled, has been instrumental in convincing Bush not only not to attack Iran's nuclear installations, but not to support an Israeli attack against Iran's nuclear installations.

What is profoundly distressing about statements by men like Cirincione and Gates is what they tell us about the strategic reasoning informing the incoming Obama administration. Their views echo those voiced by advocates of American abandonment of Israel such as Professors Steve Walt and John Mearshimer. Walt and Mearshimer argue that Iran is not a threat to US interests or to global security because in the event that the mullahs acquire nuclear weapons, they are likely to view them merely as a deterrent against Iran's enemies. And as a result, Iran will respond as the Soviet Union did to a deterrent model based on mutually assured destruction.

This view is contradicted by Iran's open advocacy of Israel's destruction, and its declared willingness to absorb a nuclear attack in return for destroying Israel. But assuming that this is how the Obama team views Iran, they should be the last ones advocating Israeli disarmament. Because if this is their view, then by their own reasoning, Israel's presumed nuclear arsenal is necessary to deter Teheran from attacking. And if as Cirincione advocates, Obama intends to place Israel's nuclear arsenal on the negotiating table, he will effectively be giving Iran a green light to attack Israel with nuclear weapons.

All of the Obama team's post-election/pre-inaugural foreign policy signals place Israel's next government – which will only be elected on February 10 – in an extraordinarily difficult position.

It is not just that their positions make clear that the Obama administration will do nothing to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. The Obama team's pre-inaugural signals indicate strongly that Israel's next government will need to strike Iran's nuclear installations before two rapidly approaching deadlines.

The strike will have to occur before the mullahs enrich sufficient quantities of highly enriched uranium to produce nuclear bombs. And Israel will need to neutralize Iran's nuclear program before the Obama administration begins implementing America's new foreign policy.

More evidence that Israel’s misplaced faith in the U.S. to be a fair broker was a serious error. It’s backed you against a wall, this policy of leaning on a rotten stick for support.
Israel has become too weak as the child suckling on poisoned milk to say no to mother and the spiritual midgets seems to enjoy the slave status where weak leaders are not permitted to deviate from the plan that leads to the destruction of the state.
Going along with the failed U.S. 2 state solution is leading only to great tragedy for Israel, something you should have realized long, long ago.
What incredible insanity drives Israel for a fake peace.Quit looking to deviant nations for worthless support and.quit playing the fearful slave and stand up.
Even today as the E.U. body slams Israel into ghetto compliance Israel’s pathetic groveling leadership can not muster up the courage to use forceful language and action against the Hamas purveryors of a second holocaust and their enablers.
When will you fight and let the world know you really mean Never Again ?
The God of Israel has allowed you into a corner so that you might turn to Him instead of continuing to trust in corrupt, devious men.
It’s is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in men.

Caroline if what you say is true and I have no reason whatsoever to doubt you, the future at this time appears to be bleak.
If ever there was a time for the Jewish Nation to stand as one and this should include the Jewish Americans. IT IS NOW.
An Obama retreat from complete and unconditional support of Israel is unacceptable. Mix this with a weak and liberal leadership in Israel points to disaster.
No one in the U.S. administration should attempt to force Israel to negotiate peace as they see it. It has to be what Israel desires.
Under no circumstance should Israel ever remove nuclear from the table.
Iran must be stopped and it should be soon than later.

Obama has often stated that a nuclear Iran is “unacceptable”. “Unacceptable” is a word I’ve been hearing more and more from those on the left. It’s taken on a hollow tone. We hear everyday from lefty media types that starvation in Darfur is “unacceptable” yet none of these folks get off their butts to suggest a military solution in handling the perpetrators. Left-of-centre North American mayors decry gun violence as “unacceptable”, yet often offer non-realistic solutions that wouldn’t even work in a kindergarten. Obama’s stating that a nuclear Iran is unacceptable will have just as hollow a meaning.
I believe Obama sees himself as a dealmaker and will try to compromise his way out of the most trying and dangerous situations. I also think that Caroline has some very valid warnings here and the pre-emptive strike suggestions make sense…if done before Jan. Don’t count on it though with the present fools running the show.

If Secretary of Defense Robert Gates insinuated that Iran is developing nuclear weapons to protect itself against Israel’s nuclear weapons then it was an outright lie. Gates surely knew that Israel has been very circumspect, indeed far too circumspect in my opinion, about the existence and deployment of its nuclear weapons. As far as I know Israel has never threatened any country that it will be wiped off the face of the earth, much less with nuclear weapons. But perhaps now it the time for Israel to reveal it nukes and the circumstances under which they will be used before they are bargained away.
However, Israel should not allow itself to be put in this position. If necessary it should tell the United States and Europe to go to hell if they insist that Israel disarm itself. Israel must start standing up for itself and stop slavishly following the dictates from Washington that call her self-immolation.
Israel is the natural ally of the United States. It has the same political and economic freedoms as we do. Iran, Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan do not. They are our enemies or potential enemies. The fools in the American foreign policy establishment are either amoral pragmatists who refuse to distinguish between a free Israel and the thugocracies of Gaza, Syria and Iran or bleating cowards who cringe before the disapproval of the decadent states of Europe. It is not in the interest of Israel to follow these fools and neither is it in the interest of the United States

Bbbbut, Ed Koch said that Obama will be great for Israel. He was endorsed by all of Jews in Hollywood and almost every Jewish newspaper editor. And all these rabbi recently painted Palin as an enemy of the Jewish people and through their efforts, the whole NYC rally to show support for Israel was reduced to insignificance. You even have important members of the current administration that are calling for the “raping” of Israel. I understand that there are black sheep in every family, but these are representatives of Israel elected by the majority of Israelis. Until you can clean up your own house, it will not matter what American politicians do or not do.

    Ron,….
Obama’s retreat? Unacceptable lies? When did Obama ever swore unconditional support for anyone or anything? For God’s sake, he threw his granma under the bus, when it suited his political speechmaking. If you heard something in his words about supporting Israel, you were delusional; you and 78% of the shlemasuls who voted for this pathological liar. If I weren’t Jewish myself I would callously say that whatever calamity falls on the Jewish people will be proof of evolution and survival of the fittest/natural selection. As a conservative I am forced to say that there are consequenses to your actions. 78 percent voted for him, and they must face the consequences of their actions. Being part of the 22% is no great comfort; I get dragged down along with this ship of fools.

I think part of the problem with international relations today is that leaders in the West act as though they are running corporations, not nations. The corporate model has taken hold. It’s Realpolitik to the extreme. Iran celebrates a
‘World Without America” and the Bush administration holds back door talks with Iran, treating Iran’s insults as though they were part of an ad campaign, not like the belligerent war-like behavior that they are. On a psychological level this is tremendously emboldening to Iran. They disrespect the U.S., literally walk on its flag, its leader wishes for the U.S.’s demise, and the U.S. leadership makes deals with Iran. There is no self-respect. Same with Israel. The PA continues the incitement, promoting Jihad, and Olmert/Livni claim they have a peace partner. They release terrorists with blood on their hands as though it is a corporate reshuffle, of little importance, another corporate move. Yet spiritually and psychologically very damaging. While western leaders make tepid corporate decisions with no spine and no heart, scarring their nations, the servants of Mohammed are praying fervently and rejoicing at their good fortune. The problem of “tepidness”, endemic in the West, is part of a cultural evolution/devolution that is complex, having many facets, and cannot be changed overnight. As Caroline has said, Israel is shackled, and, of course, so is America. The media’s suffocating hold on people’s minds is airtight and predictable. Nothing gets through. It has become akin to hypnosis, the same turns of phrase are repeated in the same way, and by now the subjects know how to respond. Even THE JEWISH WEEK, a NY newspaper, recently ran a long article attacking the film “Obsession”, which warns of the Jihad threat. So we have disinformation and disengaged leaders acting like CEOs. It feels like “invasion of the Bodysnatchers”. Can this be real? What will it take to waken the zombies of the West, a mega-9/11? Something will break through, and that will likely be it.

Q: How dispersed are the critical elements of Iran’s nuclear program? Could one nuke take them out? I presume they may not be, but the answer does present a third option.
If the answer to that question is no, that one nuke could, indeed, do sufficient damage to their program to set them back for 5-10 years, then the real solution would be to create a primitive bomb along the lines that Iran is assumed to be creating, then smuggle it into the Iranian state where the weapons development is occurring, and set it off, making it look like an accident occurred during construction. Israel gets plausible deniability. And breathing room for the USA to get some sense (I give him one term) and toss Barack out on his ass and put an end to The Obama Nation.
This, of course, would be a wonderful turnabout for the Iranians, who are surely going to pull some similar crap with a terrorist group whenever they do get one, and either take out Tel Aviv, NYC, or DC.

Adam, Israel doesn’t have a card to play regarding basing.
Israel has a card to play by going rogue.
    Unleashing.
Going after Syria, and threatening to occupy Damascus, and when State goes ape, tell ’em to go take a flying f@#k.
Start killing Iranians involved with their Manhattan Project.
Start grabbing Arabs off the street, connected Arabs, “princes,” OPEC bureaucrats, ———- go rogue.
Start thinking outside the box, and stop subscribing to the dubious idea that people actually look to Israel as some kind of moral beacon.
    Nobody does.
    Nobody.
So take advantage of that fact, and start showing the world Israel’s teeth.
Why are the guys building Iran a bomb, an industrial pipeline for more bombs, why are those creatures still walking the earth?
Why haven’t you gone after some OPEC ministers when OPEC was artifically inflating the price of crude?
Want to win some friends in the United States?
Start grabbing and/or whacking OPEC creatures involved in putting the gouge to American consumers as well as the larger West.
But that’s not going to happen.
What’s going to happen is more whining, more crying, more lamentations, more begging for the United States “to do something,” more begging for unnecessary and unneeded “green lights” for actions a sovereign power already has all the authority it needs to execute.
And while the situation with Israel worsens, we’ll all see more Israelis and American Jews blaming Washington in lieu of the clear cowardice and foolishness in Israel’s government.
American Jews voted for Obama BY WIDE MARGINS, ———————???????????????????
That sobering fact tells a tale.
The founders of the state of Israel were fully capable of making hard calls.
Present Israeli leadership considers a “hard call” forking over the Golan Heights, partitioning Jerusalem.
You guys are carving up your own state, and moaning that Washington is micromanaging Israeli foreign and domestic policy.
    Whatever.
    Put your hope in God.
Because State, CIA and the Democrats just threw Israel under the bus.
If events at Annapolis didn’t clarify the situation for you, if that didn’t tell you the lay of the land, tell you which way the wind was blowing, ————– nothing will.
Sorry to be grim and bitter. But there it is.
You guys had better do your damndest to elect Netanyahu, for he’s just about the only man in your leadership capable of making the decisions that will need to be made.

Yesterday morning I thought I posted a comment. However, in my haste to get ready for 9 AM Sunday Mass I may have hit the wrong key.
I wanted to respond to exdissident. With respects to Obama’s retreat from complete support of Israel, the support I was referring to was the majority of Americans whom I believe support Israel.
You are misguided in the fact, I didn’t vote for Obama and should direct your comments to the 78% of liberal American Jews who have (as my Catholic School nuns use to say) backbones of jellyfish. Their support is weak to say the least.
Please note that while at Sunday Mass, I did as usual offer up prayers for Israel and the Jewish people.
    God Bless Israel

Though not of Jewish decent I pray daily for the protection of the Jewish race and the State of Isreal. I am well aware that the Jihad threatens all of us that are not of Muslim belief, and also pray daily that this great evil will be stopped. I voted for Obama as the only choice I saw for peace to come in the future. I hope the man is not a wolf in sheeps, clothing, as I felt his opponent McCain was a war monger.I am just so glad to be rid of the Bush tyrany after eight long years , and can not believe how one man could so destroy a great country both financially and morally in such a short time.I see Iran as the great Satan , and especailly extreme evil in Ahmadinejad who believes he is a God and not a mere man. Iran is were America should be fighting, but because of that war like Isreal we have become weak in the fight against the Jihad as we waste our money and soldiers in Iraq. I believe because of the Bush family ties to the Saudi’s we have not captured Bin Ladin, and also have not assasinated Ahmadinejad with CIA assasines. Now we will probably pay the price with a nuclear exchange between Isreal and Iran. I pray it doesn’t destroy our whole planet. Lastly, my friends please take the time to pray for peace daily, as we live in perilous times !!

Adam, nice cards you are dreaming of. You think turning to Russia or China will be good? Take a look at Cuba, North Korea, and any other small country these two had a hand in. This would be disasterous. You want a recent example of Russian intervention? Look at Georgia. What you really fail to grasp is that no one will fight your battles for you.
As far as benevolent dragons whose wing you may wish to crawl under, America is by far the most benevolent. As you can see now, this alliance leaves you at the whim of the strong.
Gary, Palin-McCain wouldn’t have placed a group of Jew hating refugees from Carter administration in charge. McCain wouldn’t be reaching out to Syria for alliance, while our soldiers are fighting the same people that run Hezbollah in Iraq. Whatever his fault are, McCain didn’t abandon American soldiers to their fate at a time of war. This monster will, just as his voting record in the Senate proved.

In my previous comment, the mention of Catholic nuns and their description of those with the backbone of jellyfish did not at the time refer to liberal Jews. It is used to describe anyone who doesn’t have the backbone to stand up for what they believe. I used it to describe the liberal weak American Jews.
I just feel the American Jews don’t get it. Their so called support of Israel appears to be distant.
In Caroline’s prior article “A threat of a Jewish Army”, I agree not only should the military be educated in Jewish heritage and history of the land, it should be the handbook for all of Israel to follow.
Israel is not a secular nation. It is above all a Jewish Nation. The religious Zionists should stand up and be heard and their voices should ring out to all the people of Israel.
Don’t let the secular-progressives take away your faith and rich heritage.
    God Bless Israel

‘McCain wouldn’t be reaching out to Syria for alliance’
No he wouldn’t of had to ,Bush beat him to it as he is doing with Iran.
obama and the republicans have the same final solution Road Map for Israel.
So the cosmetic differences are only to fool the fools.
How foolish to put any confidence in any of these duplicitous, lying politicians.
Any sane watcher can see that America is rotting, collapsing uder it’s own filth and waste.
Our economy is flat lining as is our military, being worn out and worn down by the latest idiot who now resides in the Oval office.
Bush’s downfall began with his call for a Palestinian state in the heart of Israel.
The God of Israel says it in clear words (Zechariah 12:3) His promise to cut in pieces any who would interfere with Jerusalem ,Israel and Ameirca is dying the death of a thousand cuts.
Only yesterday the once great Citi Corp said it had to slash/cut over 50,00 jobs.
Daily the decay and rot increase and the blind and those in denial keep hold of their fantasies because the reality is to horiffic to watch unfold.
The big Pharma industry and their medications to block reality are on the rise over here in the land that rots and burns.
America is doomed because of her wickedness and her TREACHEROUS betrayal of Israel.
Those who look to the McCain’s and Obama’s serve idols and will go down with the sinking ship becasue they did not seek the Lord.
Daily it becomes more evident how foolsih Israel has been to look to U.S instead of God because the U.S. will not even be able to save herself.
Our arrogance and pride in carving up Israel for this fake peace leads to our certain downfall.
Watch for more severe cases of ‘cut in pieces’
destruction and judgments,God’s immediate promise to those who would meddle, interfere, divide Jerusalem.

After watching the run-up to the U.S. election, I’m not surprised Obama favors this. His pro-Arab stance was obvious and troubling. Many of the American electorate ignored literally dozens of warnings. The Pravda-like liberal Main Stream Media in the U.S. censored real information to sway the election.
I for one sounded the warnings bells over and over, sending information to B’nai Brith heirarchy, without response.
Those that chose to ignore the warning bells must now take steps to undue their dramatic mistake. With the coming Great Depression in the U.S., there isn’t much time left.
If Israel faces harm, the blame must be placed at the feet of those that were not intellectually curious enough to find out what this man Obama really is all about. American Jews must be ashamed of themselves for such a careless selection, and must now work together to prevent any harm to come to Israel.

MIchaelB, I share your sentiment. I am not convinced that American Jews that voted for Obama feel shame. I believe that they are so far gone in their delusions, that nothing short of electric shock therapy will allow even a sliver of reality into their brain.
I was born in USSR where Jews were often blamed for the state of economy, health,…. Even after almost every Jew had left my city, the local population still found a way to dump their problems on Jews. Iran is the same way. There might be only a dozen Jews still hiding there, and yet they are always portrayed as those responsible for Iran’s problems.
Well, these psychotic American Jews have learned from their fascist and communist liberal allies. When USA is in ruin and Israelis are killed, they will blame those who are no longer present to direct the US government policies. They will blame the Jews of the 21st century – namely conservatives and Republicans.

2009 will indeed be a tremendously eventful year. Reading the Holy Bible and listening to
    various world-event Christian-minded teachers,
I’m glad I’m a follower of Jesus Christ because
I get a great deal of confidence and peace that
God’s Will is involved in all this, even if it’s
difficult to sometimes understand — but the
challenge of trying to see it all working out is
    very satisfying to me.
In order to exert some pressure on Obama’s
potentially uncoming neagtive action towards Israel, I think Israel should indeed make
overtures about starting talks with China
and Russia (even though it would simply be
superficial talks, just the idea that Israel
is not at the mercy of the USA) — it could
send a message that Israel wants to defend
itself — with or without the USA.
I’ve lost much respect for how the USA conducts
itself worldwide, and I feel Obama will even
make me think even less in the coming years.
