Compare and contrast the following three events: At the International Atomic Energy Agency's Board of Governors meeting on Wednesday, George Schulte, the US ambassador to the IAEA, pointed an accusatory finger at Syria. Damascus, Schulte said, has not come clean on its nuclear program. That program, of course, was exposed in September 2007 when Israel reportedly destroyed Syria's North Korean-built, Iranian-financed al-Kibar nuclear reactor.

In its report to its Board of Governors, the IAEA stated that in analyzing soil samples from the bombed installation, its inspectors discovered traces of uranium. The nuclear watchdog agency also noted that the Syrians have blocked UN nuclear inspectors from the site and from three other suspected nuclear sites.

Reacting to the IAEA report, Schulte said that it "contributes to the growing evidence of clandestine nuclear activities in Syria."

He added, "We must understand why such [uranium] material – material not previously declared to the IAEA – existed in Syria, and this can only happen if Syria provides the cooperation requested."

On Tuesday, at a press conference in Jerusalem with outgoing Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni, visiting US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton announced that the Obama administration is sending two senior envoys to Damascus. Their job, as she put it, is to begin "preliminary conversations" on how to jumpstart US-Syrian bilateral ties.

Clinton's statement made good headlines, but she was light on details. On Wednesday, hours after Schulte accused Syria of covering up its illicit nuclear program, US Sen. John Kerry helpfully filled in the blanks about the nature of the Obama administration's overtures to nuclear-proliferating Damascus. In an address before the left-leaning Saban Center for Middle East Policy at the Brookings Institute in Washington, the Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, who just returned from a visit to Syria, Israel and the Palestinian Authority, said that the purpose of US overtures to Damascus is to appease Syrian President Bashar Assad.

If in the past, both American and Israeli policy-makers interested in engaging Damascus have made ending Syria's alliance with Iran a central goal of their proposed engagement, Kerry dismissed such an aim as unrealistic. In his words, "We should have no illusions that Syria will immediately end its ties with Iran."

Indeed, as far as Kerry is concerned, Syria's role in these talks is not to actually give the US anything of value. Rather, Syria's role is to take things of value from the US – and of course from Israel.

Kerry proposed that in exchange for Syrian acceptance of the US's offer of friendship and Assad's willingness to negotiate an Israeli surrender of the Golan Heights, America should consider "loosening certain sanctions" against Syria. Doing so, he claimed, will also be good for the US economy because it will open new opportunities for US businesses.

ON THE surface, the disparate statements by Schulte, Clinton and Kerry present us with a puzzle. In Geneva, Schulte noted that Syria is a nuclear proliferating rogue state that has refused to cooperate with UN inspectors. And in Jerusalem and Washington, Clinton and Kerry ignored Syria's dangerous actions, and advocated a policy of appeasement.

At the same IAEA Board of Governors meeting this week, the agency reported that Iran has produced more than a thousand kilograms of low enriched uranium – enough to build a bomb after further enrichment. That enrichment can be completed by year's end with Iran's 5,600 centrifuges. Moreover, between the Russian-built, soon-to-be-opened nuclear reactor in Bushehr and the illicit heavy water reactor in Arak, Iran will have the capacity to build plutonium-based bombs within two years.

Commenting on the IAEA's report on Iran, Adm. Michael Mullen, the Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, acknowledged that Iran has enough uranium for a bomb. Seemingly contradicting Mullen, Defense Secretary Robert Gates claimed that there is no reason to worry about all that uranium because Iran won't have a bomb for some time, given that the uranium it possesses is not sufficiently enriched to make a weapon.

For his part, US President Barack Obama is receiving guidance on contending with Iran from former Congressman Lee Hamilton, who co-authored the Baker-Hamilton Iraq Study Group report published in December 2006. That report called for the US to coordinate the withdrawal of its forces from Iraq with Iran and Syria – the principal sponsors of both the Shi'ite and Sunni insurgencies in the country. It recommended that the US purchase Syria's good will by pressuring Israel to surrender the Golan Heights to Damascus, and Judea, Samaria and Jerusalem to Hamas. It recommended that the US win Iran's trust by accepting it as a nuclear power and pledging not to overthrow the regime.

In an interview last month with Washington Post columnist David Ignatius, Hamilton reiterated those recommendations. He claimed that the starting point for US-Iran discussions is for the US to "state our respect for the Iranian people, renounce regime change as an instrument of US policy, seek opportunities for a range of dialogue across a range of issues, and acknowledge Iran's security concerns and its right to civilian nuclear power."

Hamilton assured Ignatius that these recommendations have been adopted by the White House.

ALL OF the above show that there is no contradiction between what the Obama administration understands about Iran and Syria and the policy it has adopted toward them. Specifically, as Schulte's and Mullen's statements make clear, the administration is aware of the dangers that both Iran and Syria constitute to global security. And as Clinton, Kerry, Gates and Hamilton all make clear, the administration's policy for dealing with those dangers is to change the subject and hope the American public won't notice or mind.

To this end, the administration is now asserting that Iran and Syria – the two most active agents of regional instability – share the US's interest in a stable, democratic Iraq. And owing to their sudden devotion to stability, Obama's surrogates tell us the Syrians and Iranians will support the new anti-Syrian and anti-Iranian Iraqi democracy and even protect it after the US withdraws its forces from the country.

Then, too, as both Kerry and Clinton made clear, the administration plans to ignore Syria's support for Iraqi, Palestinian and Lebanese terrorism, its nuclear proliferation activities and its massive ballistic missile arsenal, as well as its strategic alliance with Iran. Rather than confront Syria about its bad behavior, the administration favors a policy based on making believe that in his heart of hearts, Assad is a liberal democrat who aspires to peace, and hope, and change.

But the core of the administration's campaign to ignore Iran's nuclear program – as well as Syria's – is its unrelenting quest for the big payoff: Palestinian statehood.

This week Iran staged yet another "Destroy Israel" conference in Teheran, replete with Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's trademark Holocaust denial, Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei's ritual castigation of the Jewish state as a "cancerous tumor," and the US as a treacherous enemy, and Ali Larijani's threat to attack Israel's suspected nuclear sites. The conference enjoyed a newfound sense of international legitimacy, taking place as it did just after burka-clad Annette Bening's goodwill Hollywood celebrity visit to the mullocracy.

THE GENOCIDAL pageantry in Teheran elicited no significant response from Clinton and Kerry. They had bigger fish to fry. While the administration and its supporters seem to believe that the US has no right to make demands on Iran and Syria, which, they assert, are both just advancing their national inter
ests, for them Israel is a completely different story. As Clinton and Kerry demonstrated this week, the administration and its supporters will not stop making demands on Israel.

Kerry justified Syria's continued alliance with Iran by saying that Syria should be expected to "play both sides of the fence [with the US and Iran] as other nations do when they believe it is in their interests."

But Israel has no right to similarly take what action it deems necessary to secure its interests. In Kerry's view, the time has come for the US to show that it is serious about Palestinian statehood, and the way to do that is to force Israel to block all Jewish building in Judea and Samaria.

In his words, "On the Israeli side, nothing will do more to make clear our seriousness about turning the page than demonstrating – with actions rather than words – that we are serious about Israel freezing settlement activity in the West Bank."

He also called for the US to compel Israel to open its borders with Gaza. And he said that from his perspective, it is unacceptable for the incoming Netanyahu government not to embrace establishing a Palestinian state as its most urgent goal.

Clinton joined Kerry in his efforts to compel the Jewish state to ignore its national interests in the cause of the higher goal of Palestinian statehood. Like him, she attacked Israel for not handing control over its borders with Gaza to Hamas. And like Kerry, she stated repeatedly that her greatest goal is to establish a Palestinian state.

Clinton's unique contribution to that great "pro-peace" endeavor this week was her outspoken criticism on Wednesday of the Jerusalem Municipality's decision to enforce the city's building and planning ordinances equally toward both Jews and Arabs. That policy was made clear this week when city inspectors destroyed illegal buildings in both Jewish and Arab neighborhoods.

Since as far as Clinton is concerned, Israel will one day be required to throw all the Jews out of East, South and North Jerusalem to make room for what she believes is the "inevitable" Palestinian state, Israel has no right to treat Arabs and Jews equally in its soon-to-be-inevitably divided capital city. Arabs should be allowed to break the law at will. When Israel insists on enforcing its laws without prejudice, Clinton condemns it for being anti-peace.

Kerry argues that by forcing Israel to give its land to the Palestinians, the US will be promoting regional stability by doing the bidding of anti-Iranian Arab states like Egypt and Saudi Arabia. But even if putting the screws to Israel makes Cairo and Riyadh happy, their happiness will have no impact whatsoever on Iran's nuclear weapons programs or on Syria's proliferation activities. That is, Israeli land giveaways will have no impact on regional stability.

And that's precisely the point. The Obama administration has no intention of preventing Iran from becoming a nuclear power or Syria from maintaining its alliance with the mullahs. The White House seeks far more modest ends.

Through its policies toward Israel on the one hand and Iran and Syria on the other, the Obama administration demonstrates that it has already accepted a nuclear Iran. Its chief concern today is to avoid being blamed when the mushroom clouds appear in the sky. And it may well achieve that aim. After all, how could the administration be blamed for a nuclear Iran when it has wholly devoted its efforts to advancing the righteous cause of peace?

The Obama Administration mistakenly believes that when a farcical country called “Palestine” is formed, that America and Europe will be off the Islamist’s hook. Even if Israel and a so-called Palestine coexisted, the diabolical aims of Iran and Al Qaida would not be deterred. If the West tolerates Islamic nuclear proliferation, our freedom is imperiled. Eventually, Israel will be unfairly pressured to surrender the Golan Heights, Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria. And Mr. Netanyahu must be a warrior for peace, and forcefully defend Israel’s right to secure borders without apology.

Is the average Israeli stunned by the rapid capitulation of the west to the forces of Islam ?
My guess is, yes,as they looked to the West especially the U.S. as a bulwark against the growing tide of this deadly global menace.
How dead wrong Israel has been and now is not the time to point fingers at your useless idols.
You Israel have led the way in capitulation and appeasment and the west follows your cue.
It past time that you make a U-Turn and end this policy of playing dhimmi Jew to the Moslem world because it has failed miserably.
And it is also past time that you throw off your useless idols and return to God and do things His way instead of Hillary’s (USA) always failed way.

Caroline, I am as weary of the Obama Adm. intentions as you are. However, I would not put Kerry and Clinton on the same bag… True both are under “Obama’s orders” but there are some important shades. We will see…
Hamilton advising Obama is worrisome for his lack of sophistication and intellectual heft drives him to dangerous appeasement proposals.
    When you write:

    lame? that naive?

I hope that you’re wrong about the Obama administration’s concerns, but I think that you’re right. They are behaving naively, in the same way much of Europe did preceeding the outbreak of World War II. Appeasement policies do not mollify agressive and tyrannical states. Bush said as much last year and was raked over the coals by the US press for it. Others feel the same way but are not currently in a position to do much about it, and are afraid of being treated badly by the American press. This is a “perfect storm” opportunity for Iran, Syria, et al and they know it.

Hillary: “We are working with our Palestinian partners to help pave the way for a responsible Palestinian state that can be independent, accountable to its people, and live in peace with Israel and its Arab neighbors…”
    ______________
Hillary, excuse me madam secretary don’t look now but right speech, wrong location. This was for our Egyptian friends who are making land available for Palestinian statehood.
You certainly muffed that, I hope you didn’t do the same in Syria and promise them the Golan Heights,
Don’t tell me, you did. Good grief. It’s not yours to give.
Look, just get Mitchell and we better get out of town. By the way as we are leaving be careful of the rockets raining in from Gaza. You no doubt forgot to tell our friend Hamas where we would be. Nice going.

Ms. Glick: Your analysis is persuasive and it is correct. We in the U.S. are unfortunately burdened with a president who combines the worst of Neville Chamberlin and Jimmy Carter, and then some as he has a strong anti-American and anti-Israeli streak from his past associations and experiences (Jeremiah Wright, William Ayers, et al.). We hope that Israel will hang tough and that our country will come to its senses, and distinguish properly between the good guys and the bad guys, for in the Middle East you are the former and Iran, Syria, and the Palestinians are the latter.

All thats going on now is like a dream come true for the Israely left. They have been waiting for years for the Americans to start using there power and pressure to force Israel to give up land in order and do what ever it takes to gain what they believe is true peace.
Even with all the things you say Caroline it doesn’t feel like any of our polititons will admit that there is a problem with view that the Americans have on the situation over here especially when the opposition is going to be full supportive of what ever we will be told to do no matter how badly it will hurt our security. Even with most of the Isrealy public disagreeing with what Clinton wants to do over here can we be sure that Netanyahu will be able to bypass the pressure from the opposition and the media especially when as it seems like now the coalition is going be of only 61 members.

Caroline another excellent article spelling out the appeasement policy the Obama administration is undertaking to satisfy Syria the Palestinians and Hamas.
I hate to say this because I rather not believe it; this whole situation reaps of anti-Semitism. Yes.
First of all the United States should refrain from interfering in the issues of this Jewish Nation and the Palestinians. I believe a two state solution in Israel is not and should not be the concern of the US.
Forget Syria, if this administration thinks it will win over this rouge country they are in for a surprise. This government cannot be trusted.
John Kerry’s offer of the Golan Heights to Syria, excuse me. Where does he or any other American get this idea the Golan Heights is theirs for the giving?
Lee Hamilton is not only in favor of this, he suggest throwing in Judea, Samaria and Jerusalem to Hamas. Well that is about as asinine as can be. On top of that Lee is not in favor of a regime change in Iran. Well that’s the sign of a mental midget. First of all this would be the recommend action, there would be very little collateral damage to the infrastructure and would result in fewer lives lost and the Iranians could reclaim their country. What a knuckle head.
Not much to say for Hillary other than being the battered wife and first lady. She won the senate seat in NY because this liberal state felt sorry for her. Her resume in the senate is not much to speak of and is no doubt overstated.
These among other former Clinton rejects are advising this famous community organizer and that spells trouble.
In all I don’t dismiss the anti-Semitism showing its ugly head from a country you would least expect.

You guys haven’t fully put the thing together.
The idea is that you’ll get nuked, you’ll respond against whatever Persian/Arab powers that were responsible, and in your wrath, strike at some who weren’t, but were jumping in the streets.
The visuals afterwards, the horrors, the absolute horrific suffering, ———- the fact that after the hammering of Israel the “mahdi” didn’t return, the fact that in Israel’s wrath it obliterated Medina and Mecca and “allah” didn’t lift a finger to prevent it, didn’t lift a finger to champion those who were supposedly the apple of his eye, his elite, his muslims, ————- all of that will presumably to chasten those left in the world bent upon destruction. The foreign policy of China and Russia will presumably undergo a vast transformation, as will the attitudes of much of mankind, because the whole wide world will be horrified at what they see.
State is ALEADY mentally in that world, they’re already asking “Afterwards, ———- then what?” And they very much like what they see. Sure they’ll be vast environmental damage. But they can live with that.
    In the aftermath:
    Islam will be discredited in a way that doesn’t require a war of extermination between the West and islam;
The problem of Israel will be permanently “solved;”
The problem of “radical” jihadist islam will likewise be solved, for all will be given an horrific understanding of where the logic of jihad leads; and as for the price, well that will be the national incarnation of the Jewish people, scores of millions of Persians and Arabs, as well as probably Medina and Mecca, in addition to Tehran and “the holy city” of Qom. But that’s a price the West can live with, particularly in light of the fact that an everlasting peace will likely emerge for those fortunate enough to be on the sidelines.
And if you haven’t noticed, EUROPE very much intends to be on the sidelines, and Washington is now beginning to slowly amble as well towards the sidelines.
Washington doesn’t intend to be one of the ground zeros when things go BOOM!
Which means if they’re going to be on the sidelines, they’re going to have to PUBLICLY side with the Arabs and the Persians, and do so in significant and meaningful ways. And do so in sight of the whole wide world.
Washington hopes that through this event, through this dread exchange of atomics, the prospect of religious war will be terminated, instead of China moving towards an imperialistic foreign policy as she becomes richer and more powerful, instead of Russia continuing to cause her mischief, and instead of Europe being wracked by violence as gangs of “youths” roam her streets and traumatize her citizens, instead of all of that, ————————– there will be peace, and there will be ushered in the wake of your destruction a new harmony among those that are left on Earth.
RECALL WELL the strategic calculas of De Gaulle. He was given a choice of continuing France’s alliance with Israel, or tossing her overboard in a quest to allign herself with hundreds of millions of Arabs, who also possessed untold petro wealth. De Gaulle didn’t hesitate.
    Neither will the State Department.
    Neither will CIA.
    Neither will the Democrats.
GET THIS THROUGH your skulls. The Democrats HAVEN’T ANY INTENTION of fighting for anybody, least of all five million Jews on that sliver of land West of the Jordan. They want to be rid of the diplomatic rat race that The United States has been on ever since we were shanghaied into the “peace process.”
Every year, the Arabs are tossing around hundreds of millions of dollars inside the Washington beltway. Have you any idea how many lawyers and lobbyists are making fortunes from the petrodollars of the petrokingdoms? Have you any idea how many colleges and univesities have accepted scores of millions from the petrokingdoms?
What do you guys have to offer in comparison to that?
    Nothing.
Which means you guys are getting thrown to the wolves.
    So what’s the answer?
    NEUTRONS!
That regime in Tehran, ————- that’s one of the loci in the vast ellipse of terror, the other being Riyadh.
So begin with the creepy mullahs in Tehran. The blast diameter of a modern neutron can be localized within a 1,000 meters.
Somebody is going to get nuked, ———— big time.
You guys need to get your minds around that simple, solid and sobering fact.
SOMEBODY is going to get nuked.
The West is hoping that in the aftermath of a nuclear exchange between the vying “cowboy Israelis” and “muslim extremists,” a whole new world will be open, and the rest of manking can make that spirtual and mental jump they’ve not been able heretofore.
And you guys are the blood sacrifice, to enable the enlightened West to enter into that world without war.
So what’s it going to be?
Men like me aren’t in the saddle. You have to deal with creatures like those at State, you have to deal with creatures like Michelle and Barrack Hussein.

Caroline- Faced with an increasingly hostile U.S. administration (“resetting” U.S.-Russian relations, diplomatic overtures to Iran and Syria, initial support for Durban II, etc.) abetted by feckless anti-Semitic Eurocrats, the task of enforcing “regional stability” will be left to Netanyahu and the IDF. I remain confident that any Israeli action against Iranian nuclear facilities would be publicly condemned but privately applauded; the slow rot from the constant pressure of Hamas and its sympathizers abroad is the true long-term threat to the Israeli state.

First of all and most importantly, Syria has no desire to make peace with Israel ever, and no matter what the Obama administration offers there are no conditions in this universe which will ever either compel or attract the Syrians into peace with Israel. Ditto for the Palestinians.
Secondly, there is very little that Obama can offer the Syrians which will induce them to be more kindly disposed toward the United States. Indeed, even if the Obama administration were to throw Israel over the side, neither Syria nor it’s patron Iran, would take any positive notice.
Thirdly, neither the United States, nor Europe, and certainly not Israel is in any position or has the determination to confront the Iranian nuclear threat militarily. Thus all of our efforts have to be in developing an anti ballistic missile defensive umbrella, and as quickly as possible.
Besides all that, an overwhelming economic tsunami is picking up speed and size, and is going to preempt every and any other problem in the international arena.

    Pops,
it is not at all excluded that Iran may decide to launch a nuke on to any place in North America, instead of trying to wipe out Israel from the face of the planet. And it is not at all excluded that they may decide to drop one on to the Saudi oil facility at Abqaiq, which is responsible for some 65 percent of Saudi oil production. In fact Abqaiq would be a far better target than Israel, from an Iranian viewpoint. And a lot easier too. The effects on the flow of oil would be devastating. Or they might decide to target Eastern Europe. It is a telltale sign that the Europeans, notwithstanding all the heavy rhetoric of Ahmadinejad as against Israel, are very, very worried … for their own safety.
I was reading an editorial on the Italian newspaper Corriere Della Sera online the other day, which was making exactly this point. The writer was referring to the announcement on the part of Hillary Clinton during her meeting with Sergei Lavrov of the intention of this Administration to conclude an arms deal with Russia by the end of this year (the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty expires in December), and was questioning as to whether this would leave Europe exposed to a potential “reprisal attack” on the part of Iran. Particularly so, the writer continued, in light of the already proven ballistic capability of the Islamic Republic to reach a portion of South and Eastern Europe, as well as of the willingness on the part of the Administration not to deploy the missile shield in Poland and Czechoslovakia in exchange for Russian pressure on Iran.
All of which then brings up two points: the first, already made by Ms. Glick, is that this Administration has accepted a nuclear Iran – and so has Europe. The second point is that the more Hillary Clinton goes around the globe trying to make everybody happy – the Arabs in Sharm el-Sheikh, the Israelis in Jerusalem, the Europeans and Russians in Brussels and now Bashar al-Assad – the more the Administration comes across as weak and lacking a coherent international policy.
For instance, Obama wants Russia to put pressure on Tehran not to go nuclear, except that even if the Russians were agreeable to do so, it would be too late – Iran is manufacturing its own centrifuges now, and does not need the Russians anymore in this respect. In fact, there are unconfirmed reports out there that it will take Iran less than two years to have a plutonium based bomb. On the other hand, it wasn’t very good diplomacy on the part of Clinton to say in the same meeting that NATO should continue to hold open its door to membership for Ukraine and Georgia, a comment this certain to anger Russia.
The “Reset” button didn’t work very well when she said that.
But now, going back for a moment to Mr. Ketchup, John Kerry, and how serious this Administration is going to be with respect to the settlements in the West Bank for the sake of “regional stability”. As much as this may sound insane, Israel and Iran have a common goal: that of not creating a Palestinian State. Although their reasons for pursuing “regional instability” are diametrically opposite, by not allowing the creation of a Palestinian State both countries can keep the Administration off balance and prevent it to limit their respective maneuvering.
It is by threatening instability in the region that Israel, just like Iran, can keep this Administration at bay.

Since when has it become a metaphysical reality, like the sun rising every morning, that Israel must unerringly follow the dictates of Washington to the letter? The Obama administration and those preceding it have had no real power over Israel other than that of persuasion. One would think that Israelis, by and large, would find Hillary Clinton’s blandishments to give up the Golan Heights, to give Jerusalem, to give up any hope of national security the most resistible things in the world. Are Israelis too polite or too meek, present company excepted of course, to tell Hillary to go to hell and take her obnoxious “recommendations” with her?
Clearly what the Obama administration is seeking is to make Israel the patsy once again as previous administrations have done so many times in the past. Israel has complied with playing the fall man so many times that it is expected as due course in Washington. Examining the irrational motivation behind the Obama administration’s appeasement of Iran and its henchmen is of little use. The consequences of this appeasement is what counts. It would mean the end of Israel. For Israel to acquiesce in her own self-immolation would be beyond grotesque.

    Grazia Luigi,
You make some excellent points. I agree the US foreign policy is a mess.
I expect Russia to take over the Crimea before the end of 2009. The Russian occupied Georgia provinces will remain Russian and I think you can expect a lot of Russian mischief in Transdniestria (Moldova) this year too.
Obama is preoccupied with establishing his leftist agenda in the USA. That is why he’s not paying attention to foreign policy or the economy. When Hungary caves in he’ll have both an economic and foreign crisis on his hands.
In the meantime, Iran and Hamas have all the time in the world to make their plans to destroy us.
Captain Glick….I hope your uniform and weapon are still in your closet. Be ready…you stand alone.

I don’t know how you keep doing it. Your record for hitting the bulls eye is tremendous. The US administration and the fools on the left in congress are an embarassment to me and I would hope most level headed Americans. Clearly your earlier post about Obama’s mind set comming into the White House must be right, nothing else makes sense! You would think that Syria and Iran were making cupcakes instead of cakes of urainium to be used for the destruction of Israel and then the west. My only hope is that behind the scenes we are doing something right because the public moves have become more and more outrageous as the days go by. Theses moves leave me both angry and disgusted. The Chamberlin-esque tools on the left (Obama even returned the bust of Churchill to Great Britian, what an idiot) will leave us to quote Lenin “fruit ripe for the picking” only this time the enemy is not the Soviet Union, rather it is the Islamic Fascist who are worse butchers than the communists were.

Thank you Caroline for providing the truth as you
always do. I pray for peace in Israel at whatever the cost!
President Obama, Hillary and Mitchell don’t speak for all American’s.I believe they lack knowledge of Jehovah, our God and our Lord. A little information follows …..
“How beautiful are your tents, O Jacob, your dwelling places, O Israel! “Like valleys they spread out, like gardens beside a river,
like aloes planted by the LORD, like cedars beside the waters.
Water will flow from their buckets; their seed will have abundant water. “Their king will be greater than Agag; their kingdom will be exalted.”God brought them out of Egypt; they have the strength of a wild ox. They devour hostile nations and break their bones in pieces; with their arrows they pierce them.
Like a lion they crouch and lie down, like a lioness who dares
to rouse them? “May those who bless you be blessed and those who curse you be cursed!”
Numbers 24:5-9 The Lord has spoken
    in regard to Israel.

    Pops,
here is another example, fresh from the press, of the Administration’s incongruity with respect to its foreign policy:
    http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/A/AS_KOREAS_TENSION?SITE=NJHAC&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT
As you can see from this brief, North Korea is on red alert and threatens war if anyone shoots down the communications satellite it plans to launch sometimes in the next couple of weeks. North Korea is especially angry because not too long ago the Obama Administration hinted they might shoot down the missile, which obviously has the capability of reaching the US West Coast.
But the Administration has made no such threat to Iran, when the Islamic Republic launched its own communications satellite carried on a Safir 2 rocket, obviously with intercontinental ballistic capabilities just as well. Take a look at this:
    http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/7868116.stm
What the Administration merely stated in the case of the Islamic Republic was that it was “reaching out a hand [to Iran] but the fist has to unclench.”
At this point the question of the year becomes: why is the US reaching out to Iran with an unclenched fist for a communications satellite carried by a ballistic missile, and instead threatens to shoot down a North Korean communications satellite carried by a similar ballistic missile?
In Cast Lead Israel was attacked internationally for its “disproportionate response” to Hamas. But isn’t the American response to North Korea equally disproportionate vis-à-vis its response to Iran?
One might think that the Obama White House is especially worried of the repercussions the shooting down of the Iranian Safir 2 might have throughout the entire Middle East.

Although the picture looks bleak for Israel there is some really good news.
Israel’s present incompetent leadership ,it’s weakness and betrayal is a trap set for her enemies by God which the Russians and her allies will fall into.
This is not good news for the coastland’s,which includes the U.S. as God only fights for one nation.
North Korea,Russia,Iran and others are part of a Confederation which seeks to bring America down during our economic meltdown.
    We don’t have much time.
Israel will remain ,the U.S. will not.
    “AND you, son of man, prophesy against Gog, and say, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD: “Behold, I am against you, O Gog, the prince of Rosh, Meshech, and Tubal;
“and I will turn you around and lead you on, bringing you up from the far north, and bring you against the mountains of Israel.
“Then I will knock the bow out of your left hand, and cause the arrows to fall out of your right hand.
“You shall fall upon the mountains of Israel, you and all your troops and the peoples who are with you; I will give you to birds of prey of every sort and to the beasts of the field to be devoured.
“You shall fall on the open field; for I have spoken,” says the Lord GOD.
“And I will send fire on Magog and on those who live in security in the coastlands. Then they shall know that I am the LORD.
“So I will make My holy name known in the midst of My people Israel, and I will not let them profane My holy name anymore. Then the nations shall know that I am the LORD, the Holy One in Israel.
“Surely it is coming, and it shall be done,” says the Lord GOD. “This is the day of which I have spoken.
“Then those who dwell in the cities of Israel will go out and set on fire and burn the weapons, both the shields and bucklers, the bows and arrows, the javelins and spears; and they will make fires with them for seven years.
“They will not take wood from the field nor cut down any from the forests, because they will make fires with the weapons; and they will plunder those who plundered them, and pillage those who pillaged them,” says the Lord GOD.
“It will come to pass in that day that I will give Gog a burial place there in Israel, the valley of those who pass by east of the sea; and it will obstruct travelers, because there they will bury Gog and all his multitude. Therefore they will call it the Valley of Hamon Gog.
“For seven months the house of Israel will be burying them, in order to cleanse the land.
“Indeed all the people of the land will be burying, and they will gain renown for it on the day that I am glorified,” says the Lord GOD.
    Ezekiel 39

Israel cannot depend on the US. The current situation can end only with a return to the status quo of 1944.
A good solution would be for Israel to arm Egypt and Jordan with nuclear weapons. After all, a nuclear attack on Israel by Iran will cause enormous collateral damage in Egypt, Syria and Jordan. Millions will die. Millions will be deformed. Millions of mutant gangs will ravage the ME.
Therefore, the Egypt and Jordan should be able to defend themseles — to retaliate in kind against Iran, thus establishing a cold war balance in the Middle East. I would leave Syria and Lebanon out because each is an Iranian puppet.
Egypt will not use nukes on Israel because it would suffer enormous destruction from fallout, etc. The Jordanians will turn them down in order to preserve internal stability.
The US will have kittens but will do nothing. Russia will continue rebuilding the Soviet Empire and China will support anything that hampers rebuilding the empire.

“Norman Finklestein, the notorious Hizbullah and Hamas supporter and all-purpose anti-Semite”.
I don’t know where you have been recently but this line of attack is dead as a dodo. It is vexatious, disingenuous, and totally ad hominem. I think the public expects better. They should at any rate.
