Obama’s Arabian Dreams

US President Barack Obama claims to be a big fan of telling the truth. In media interviews ahead of his trip to Saudi Arabia and Egypt and during his big speech in Cairo on Thursday, he claimed that the centerpiece of his Middle East policy is his willingness to tell people hard truths.

Indeed, Obama made three references to the need to tell the truth in his so-called address to the Muslim world.

Unfortunately, for a speech billed as an exercise in truth telling, Obama’s address fell short. Far from reflecting hard truths, Obama’s speech reflected political convenience.

Obama’s so-called hard truths for the Islamic world included statements about the need to fight so-called extremists; give equal rights to women; provide freedom of religion; and foster democracy. Unfortunately, all of his statements on these issues were nothing more than abstract, theoretical declarations devoid of policy prescriptions.

He spoke of the need to fight Islamic terrorists without mentioning that their intellectual, political and monetary foundations and support come from the very mosques, politicians and regimes in Saudi Arabia and Egypt that Obama extols as moderate and responsible.

He spoke of the need to grant equality to women without making mention of common Islamic practices like so-called honor killings, and female genital mutilation. He ignored the fact that throughout the lands of Islam women are denied basic legal and human rights. And then he qualified his statement by mendaciously claiming that women in the US similarly suffer from an equality deficit. In so discussing this issue, Obama sent the message that he couldn’t care less about the plight of women in the Islamic world.

So, too, Obama spoke about the need for religious freedom but ignored Saudi Arabian religious apartheid. He talked about the blessings of democracy but ignored the problems of tyranny.

In short, Obama’s “straight talk” to the Arab world, which began with his disingenuous claim that like America, Islam is committed to “justice and progress, tolerance and the dignity of all human beings,” was consciously and fundamentally fraudulent. And this fraud was advanced to facilitate his goal of placing the Islamic world on equal moral footing with the free world.

In a like manner, Obama’s tough “truths” about Israel were marked by factual and moral dishonesty in the service of political ends.

On the surface, Obama seemed to scold the Muslim world for its all-pervasive Holocaust denial and craven Jew hatred. By asserting that Holocaust denial and anti-Semitism are wrong, he seemed to be upholding his earlier claim that America’s ties to Israel are “unbreakable.”

Unfortunately, a careful study of his statements shows that Obama was actually accepting the Arab view that Israel is a foreign – and therefore unjustifiable – intruder in the Arab world. Indeed, far from attacking their rejection of Israel, Obama legitimized it.

The basic Arab argument against Israel is that the only reason Israel was established was to sooth the guilty consciences of Europeans who were embarrassed about the Holocaust. By their telling, the Jews have no legal, historic or moral rights to the Land of Israel.

This argument is completely false. The international community recognized the legal, historic and moral rights of the Jewish people to the Land of Israel long before anyone had ever heard of Adolf Hitler. In 1922, the League of Nations mandated the “reconstitution” – not the creation – of the Jewish commonwealth in the Land of Israel in its historic borders on both sides of the Jordan River.

But in his self-described exercise in truth telling, Obama ignored this basic truth in favor of the Arab lie. He gave credence to this lie by stating wrongly that “the aspiration for a Jewish homeland is rooted in a tragic history.”

He then explicitly tied Israel’s establishment to the Holocaust by moving to a self-serving history lesson about the genocide of European Jewry.

Even worse than his willful blindness to the historic, legal and moral justifications for Israel’s rebirth, was Obama’s characterization of Israel itself. Obama blithely, falsely and obnoxiously compared Israel’s treatment of Palestinians to white American slave owners’ treatment of their black slaves. He similarly cast Palestinian terrorists in the same morally pure category as slaves. Perhaps most repulsively, Obama elevated Palestinian terrorism to the moral heights of slave rebellions and the US civil rights movement by referring to it by its Arab euphemism, “resistance.”

BUT AS disappointing and frankly obscene as Obama’s rhetoric was, the policies he outlined were much worse. While prattling about how Islam and America are two sides of the same coin, Obama managed to spell out two clear policies. First, he announced that he will compel Israel to completely end all building for Jews in Judea, Samaria, and eastern, northern and southern Jerusalem. Second, he said that he will strive to convince Iran to substitute its nuclear weapons program with a nuclear energy program.

Obama argued that the first policy will facilitate peace and the second policy will prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. Upon reflection, however, it is clear that neither of his policies can possibly achieve his stated aims. Indeed, their inability to accomplish the ends he claims he has adopted them to advance is so obvious, that it is worth considering what his actual rationale for adopting them may be.

The administration’s policy toward Jewish building in Israel’s heartland and capital city expose a massive level of hostility toward Israel. Not only does it fly in the face of explicit US commitments to Israel undertaken by the Bush administration, it contradicts a longstanding agreement between successive Israeli and American governments not to embarrass each other.

Moreover, the fact that the administration cannot stop attacking Israel about Jewish construction in Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria, but has nothing to say about Hizbullah’s projected democratic takeover of Lebanon next week, Hamas’s genocidal political platform, Fatah’s involvement in terrorism, or North Korean ties to Iran and Syria, has egregious consequences for the prospects for peace in the region.

As Fatah leader Mahmoud Abbas made clear in his interview last week with The Washington Post, in light of the administration’s hostility toward Israel, the Palestinian Authority no longer feels it is necessary to make any concessions whatsoever to Israel. It needn’t accept Israel’s identity as a Jewish state. It needn’t minimize in any way its demand that Israel commit demographic suicide by accepting millions of foreign, hostile Arabs as full citizens. And it needn’t curtail its territorial demand that Israel contract to within indefensible borders.

In short, by attacking Israel and claiming that Israel is responsible for the absence of peace, the administration is encouraging the Palestinians and the Arab world as a whole to continue to reject Israel and to refuse to make peace with the Jewish state.

The Netanyahu government reportedly fears that Obama and his advisers have made such an issue of settlements because they seek to overthrow Israel’s government and replace it with the more pliable Kadima party. Government sources note that White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel played a central role in destabilizing Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu’s first government in 1999, when he served as an adviser to then president Bill Clinton. They also note that Emmanuel is currently working with leftist Israelis and American Jews associated with Kadima and the Democratic Party to discredit the government.

While there is little reason to doubt that the Obama administration would prefer a leftist government in Jerusalem, it is unlikely that the White House is attacking Israel primarily to advance this aim. This is first of all the case because today there is littl
e danger that Netanyahu’s coalition partners will abandon him.

Moreover, the Americans have no reason to believe that prospects for a peace deal would improve with a leftist government at the helm in Jerusalem. After all, despite its best efforts, the Kadima government was unable to make peace with the Palestinians, as was the Labor government before it. What the Palestinians have shown consistently since the failed 2000 Camp David summit is that there is no deal that Israel can offer them that they are willing to accept.

So if the aim of the administration in attacking Israel is neither to foster peace nor to bring down the Netanyahu government, what can explain its behavior?

The only reasonable explanation is that the administration is baiting Israel because it wishes to abandon the Jewish state as an ally in favor of warmer ties with the Arabs. It has chosen to attack Israel on the issue of Jewish construction because it believes that by concentrating on this issue, it will minimize the political price it will be forced to pay at home for jettisoning America’s alliance with Israel. By claiming that he is only pressuring Israel to enable a peaceful “two-state solution,” Obama assumes that he will be able to maintain his support base among American Jews who will overlook the underlying hostility his “pro-peace” stance papers over.

OBAMA’S POLICY toward Iran is a logical complement of his policy toward Israel. Just as there is no chance that he will bring Middle East peace closer by attacking Israel, so he will not prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons by offering the mullahs nuclear energy. The deal Obama is now proposing has been on the table since 2003, when Iran’s nuclear program was first exposed. Over the past six years, the Iranians have repeatedly rejected it. Indeed, just last week they again announced that they reject it.

Here, too, to understand the president’s actual goal it is necessary to search for the answers closer to home. Since Obama’s policy has no chance of preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, it is apparent that he has come to terms with the prospect of a nuclear armed Iran. In light of this, the most rational explanation for his policy of engagement is that he wishes to avoid being blamed when Iran emerges as a nuclear power in the coming months.

In reckoning with the Obama administration, it is imperative that the Netanyahu government and the public alike understand the true goals of its current policies. Happily, consistent polling data show that the overwhelming majority of Israelis realize that the White House is deeply hostile toward Israel. The data also show that the public approves of Netanyahu’s handling of our relations with Washington.

Moving forward, the government must sustain this public awareness and support. By his words as well as by his deeds, not only has Obama shown that he is not a friend of Israel. He has shown that there is nothing that Israel can do to make him change his mind.

Caroline great analysis as usual you certainly have Obama pegged right.
What concerns me is Obama goes to Egypt to represent our Nation and he directs his talk to Muslims a religion and not the Egyptian Nation. Something is wrong with this picture unless of course you are a Muslim and you want to address your people.
I don’t recall him addressing the Jewish Nation per say.
In one breath he says the US should not interfere or tell other nations what to do and from the other side of his mouth he says Israel needs to work towards a two state solution and stop building in the settlements. Again something is wrong with this picture unless of course you are trying to appease the Arabs.
Now think about this; every one of these Arab/Muslim nations are not democracies and they have terrible human rights violations, especially with women.
On the other hand Israel is a true democracy no human rights violations and is a strong and friendly ally.
Guess who get thrown under the bus. Of course if you’re a Muslim at heart and you side with the Arabs the Jews, why not.
Now for the liberal American Jews and all American cool aid drinkers, WAKE UP, WAKE UP.
Every American Jew should be outraged. Even I as a Catholic I am outraged over his treatment of Israel.
Damn it to hell get OUTRAGE.
Tell your congress and senate representatives and Mr. Obama you support Israel and to stop dictating terms. Friends don’t tell friends what to do; they ask what they can do to help.
The truth of the matter is the Palestinians don’t want peace it doesn’t serve their purpose and if they want to live in peace with Israel they have to begin at square one RECOGNIZE ISRAEL A JEWISH NATION.

The aims of the Obama administration are to undermine the Netanyahu government and to create an independent Palestine. By doing these things, President Obama thinks he can solve the Arab-Israeli conflict, and “extinguish the flames” of Muslim hatred toward the United States. President Obama is in no position to abandon Israel because he would lose his support base among American Jews. President Obama is “playing both sides” by appearing evenhanded. Prime Minister Netanyahu needs to clearly articulate to the world that the PLO is intransigent toward making peace with Israel.

Good ole pull-no-punches Glick. Your analysis is exact and perfectly descriptive of this monster we have made POTUS. My country is dying although my eternal country beckons ever more strongly.
I’ve been reading your stuff off and on for about three years or so. You truly are an enlightened individual. I hope this extends to your spiritual aspect. Love your new pic. You are a very attractive woman … although the old pic at the Post was pretty bad. %^))
Regarding the first commenter’s statement about Chairman Zero’s need for American Jewish support: I suppose their will always be some self-hating Jews who will support him but those who actually believe themselves to be the people of G-d will not be needed by Obama. What’s a couple million jewish voters to a man with an invigorated cash-flush ACORN and La Raza behind him as he allows in more and more rat voters from the South.
Don’t know how much more time is left but given The Messiah tarries … look for Michelle to run in 2016. Or for the amendment limiting presidential terms to be done away with.

Regarding the first commenter’s statement about Chairman Zero’s need for American Jewish support
    Scott –
Not that he needs support from the Jewish people; my concern is that a majority of liberal American Jew voted for him in spite of is attitude towards Israel.
I firmly believe that if this same majority would come forward and be outraged they would gather a lot of support from non-Jews.
I honestly believe that a majority of American support Israel as a Jewish Nation.
I may be wrong but some reason I feel that American Jews are afraid to be too Jewish and that is not good. They should be proud.
Maybe they feel comfortable being recognized as strictly American and will not appear to be Jewish.
I don’t have the answer, I am sure Caroline could enlighten us. I would invite her to elaborate.
I mentioned many times Caroline is an example that you can be both a great American and likewise a great Israeli.
A Jew regardless where he or she resides is connected to Israeli by heritage, tradition and by G-d.

The Arabian Dream religion is more of a Frankenstein Christianity: one of the main differences is that Islam uses power to pursuade, something that the earliest Christian mentors longed for, but had had too much of the Roman forces to have the sacrificing Christians tolerate it. My understanding that one of Mohammed’s wifes was a important Christian widow taken from a monestary to help the illiterate and warmongering Mo write his Quaran.
On a smaller scale, it reminds me of taking a small time forger and plagerist, Bill Gates, who stole DOS (Disk Operating System) from a professor at a Washington U., and who sued him and won $50,000. The award amount is tantamount to proof that Gates stole at least that amount, but of course it was a ‘civil’ trial. IBM, playing the Catholic church, either ignored the fact of Gate’s dishonesty, or it hadn’t played out when they lost Don Estredge, the head of the PC division, here in Boca Raton.
IBM then gave Gates the right to design the operating system for the PC (like the Catholic Church, they thought that their system, multitasking would soon replace Gates’s. So too, I’ve read that historians believed that unifying the nomadic Philistines and others under a clone of religion would be easy to overtake within some small timeframe. OPPS on both houses, Catholic and IBM.
IBM actually invented a ‘compatible factor’, with sufficient legal support, which in effect was a small unique ‘stutter’ program on the main processor that ‘legally’ made every PC from every manufacturer unique so that no lawsuits could be valid for using the same system. What happened is that it made the system ‘kluggie’ … sometimes and somethings didn’t work right… great for consultants and people that needed a ‘hard’ excuse, unlike ‘my dog at the receipts’ around tax time. According to David Bradley, inventor of the ‘compatible factor’ this made the PC a terrible machine, one that couldn’t reach a potential and lacked one-to-one functionality.
Bradley was my professor in Computer Science here in Boca; he taught using the Motorola chip, and expressed real disappointment that IBM considered the PC such a stepchild, a defective decoy that would lead everyone back to the mega-machines, where they today dominate, and where renting time on them worked just fine.
So the PC, like Islam were formed by the largest powers of the day as inferior products on purpose in order to bring together the known enemies into one group with the understanding that they could be conquered and defeated in a short or mid term with much less effort had they, the powerful, done nothing. Opps, wrong.
And so the powerful seem to panic…. fund all sorts of petty adversaries in order to bring them in later on. The main idea is that both the PC and Islam and even the Catholic church are built on houses of cards.
I just wish this would give people a perspective on the fact that what they perceive as the enemy …. Jews … are really the foundation to the stability and prosperity of the western world. It seems the west is unaware of their perilous alliances, but evermore, the east sees the Jewish foundation as important, valid and unimpeachable in uniting the world into a thoughful, logical and lawful place to live. I really wish that the Protestant Christians could see this as well.
I for one and for many would warn Islamic peoples to respect Israel very soon, or you shall loose what moral authority you believe you have, that given by a corrupting and once growing Christian arrogance.

    Caroline,
First even if I had no eyes you would still be beautiful. It is what is on the inside that is important. IMHO
I do agree with you on your assessment. The Obama’nation needs American Jews when it attacks Israel for letting Iran get the bomb. If American Jews are tacitly behind Omaba’s policies, then the attacks that will come from his administration must not be antisemitism. Strange logic, but indeed these are strange times.
The truth is that if Obama really wanted peace and he had a rock-solid plan to promote he needs the buy-in of the parties on the right to cement the deal. It also gives the Israeli Left cover. If peace is not achieved and the left was in power then both the Israeli Left and Obama are left holding the bag. But if the right is in power and peace is achieved Obama gets the credit, but if not than Obama can deflect the blame. I agree with your assessment.
The fact is that Iran already has a bomb, they are just to smart to test it yet. They got the starter materials and design through North Korea and/or Pakistan’s Khan and ISA. Possible that some old Soviet Nukes got to them via Al Qaeda? One thing is for sure Iran is not going to test the device until they are ready, and they are not ready yet.
Obama is betting that placating the Iranians will keep them from testing, not developing. Who knows perhaps the last nuclear test in Korea was an Iranian test. It would be a perfect win-win for both North Korea and Iran. North Korea got to thumb their noses at the US and picked up some Iranian cash and orders for missle parts in the process. Iran got to keep their hands “clean” and was able to verify the design they have. Perhaps the International community is thinking of inspecting the ships headed in the wrong direction. Perhaps they should be inspecting the ships coming into North Korea from Iran, besides those leaving North Korea.
While I hate to see my country being used for evil, I figure there is nothing I can do about it, except to make my voice be heard that I am against it. The “play” we are all witnessing was written long ago. The out come we know. The only question that remains is what is extent of the chastisement that is going to happen between now and the final curtain.
I wonder sometimes if it would not be better for Israel to give Gaza to Egypt and Judea/Samaria to Jordan in keeping with the idea of the pre-1967 boundaries. By-passing the Palestinians altogether and tossing the whole mess into the Arabs laps? OK I am only dreaming because Israel would be blamed anyway for any inter-Arab fighting because Israel didn’t do exactly what the powers of the world wanted it to do.
I think in the end Israeli government must do what is best for the safety and security of the Israelis. I seen no western country even remotely suggest that if things got out of hand, if Israel gives in to the two state solution that the Israeli’s would be welcome there. Angry Arabs to the north, east and south, and the Mediterranean to the west. The battle ground always dictates the tactics.
Now that the is in office we know he lied about his Muslim background. There is more he may have lied about. Obama is not yet considered the legitimate President of the United States, because to date he has failed to prove he holds the Constitutional requirements for the office. Never before in our history was the son of a Transient (i.e. one who was not even an immigrant) elected President. Face it Obama’s father never had any intentions of making a life in the USA, and Obama’s dreams are of his father. He is the subject of several lawsuits seeking not only his birth certificate, which by the way an Israel online newspaper was the first to point out the problems with what he posted, but also with the way Congress failed to examine the charges made against Obama but did investigate McCain. They have relied upon a forced silence in the media and ignoring questions when asked and delaying the trials. The Obama administration is that house built on sand, and when the wind comes it will fall.
The reason this is important is because one day this question will need to be answered and if it is against Obama then all the treaties he makes could easily become null and void. Which could leave Israel high and dry.

This was the day that every Israeli dreaded and knew had to come sometime, that is, the day when an American President decided that the strategic alliance with Israel was more trouble than it was worth. While at the same time believing that a covenent of interests between America and the most extreme fundamentalist Moslem states would be far more beneficial to America than with the Western colony of Israel.
I recall when Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton proclaimed loudly that no one was more supportive of Israel’s security than they were, and of course most Jews, American and Israeli, believed that both Obama and Clinton defined Israeli security needs the same way they did. Thus no one bothered to ask either politician just what they thought would bolster Israel’s security.
Now we come to find out that Obama and Clinton define supporting Israel’s security means defining Israel as an enemy of peace (and minimizing American support for Israel) and an occupier of Palestinian lands and defining the Arab Moslem world as the last best haven of humanity.
Of course Obama and Clinton’s understanding of the situation is deeply flawed and remarkably ill informed. The Palestinians will never negotiate in good faith with Israel, and will never sign a peace treaty if it means Palestinian recognition that Israel has the legitimate right to exist in peace and security.
Mr. Obama made it a point as well to state that America is not at war with Islam, a belief which is also at odds with reality and deeply flawed. Certainly the Obama administration is not at war with Islam but sadly the same cannot be said about Islam. Islam is at war with America, on the battlefield as well as in the diplomatic arena, and America under Obama and Clinton is surrendering while Islam is ascendent.
Well, the Israeli people and government have some very difficult and expensive choice ahead of them, and some of these choices will have to include telling Mr. Obama and Mrs. Clinton that Israel will do her utmost best to accommodate America’s interests, but that we will not willingly participate in our own destruction, whether that means surrendering to illegitimate and absurd Palestinian demands or allowing Iran to develop the nuclear means to destroy us.

It is obvious that Obama is a double talking liar that is running interference for Islam.
Israel needs to organize American Jews to oppose Obama’s pro-Muslim agenda. The problem is that American Jews are Western centric, and that is a big problem.
Israel needs to start thinking about its strategy to survive with a hostile America. Obama is shifting US policy more to the interests of Turkey which is shifting to an anti-Israel Arab aligned policy. The question is how to weaken the US/Turkey alliance.
Being Armenian, I can suggest this: Israel should recognize the Armenian Genocide, and then American Jews join together high profile with American Armenians to promote and pass American recognition of the Armenian Genocide which will drive a wedge between America and Turkey. This will have the secondary effect of driving a wedge between the US and the Sunni Arabs as the latter are trying to bring Turkey into alliance with them. Ultimately the Sunni Arabs will more highly value their alliance with Turkey to keep it from getting too close to Shia Iran.
I know that this may seem a self serving agenda to promote the Armenian Genocide, but Armenia and Israel both have the same problem: Obama, and his tilting of American foreign policy to the interests of Turkey and Azerbaijan (both deadly enemies of Armenia), and to the other Muslim states of the Middle East (all enemies of Israel). A wedge must be driven into his pro-Muslim strategy for both our sakes.
Israel’s past strategy with Turkey and America is melting away. America doesn’t care about the threat of Iranian nuclear weapons, is now led by a pro-Muslim president, so now the biggest threat to Israel is, America!

In hindsight, thank goodness erstwhile President Jimmy Carter did not win the second term. But he and his Democrat administration did damage in those 4 years, such as the Community Re-investment Act and how they faced Iran during the embassy hostage crisis.
President Barack Hussain Obama has topped Carter in just 4 months.
Basically, Obama has proven who he is, a spend crazy control freak; but also a flip-flopper to please the public; a passive-aggressive socialist; an apologist & appeaser as naïve as Britain’s Neville Chamberlain before WWII; and absolutely a shame for denigrating America. He has disgusted democracy and Israel, a democratic ally.
I could go on and on… but there’s 44 months of the “big mistake”. And the American mainstream media and followers share in this mistake. The elite who got him in the Oval Office are probably still stunned: My gawd we won! We better move fast before the masses comprehend the fraud.
Mind you, 2010 Congress election isn’t that long from now.
However, at the rate B.O. is going the damage might be grander than we can imagine. Perhaps the counter will be the conservative governments in key places in the world such as Britain, France, Canada, Australia, India, and the rest of Europe. Maybe Russia and China that are developing capitalist countries will prevent the reversal and this socialist stupidity and printing of money. Their economy and bank accounts could deplete more than the recent decline. Frankly, the man is unhinged.
Marxist Socialist Organizer Obama must be restrained with his ideology and dream of changing the constitution to suit his narcissistic arrogance.
And, perhaps the mainstream media will realize what they accomplished with their jumping for joy activism. Except the leftist journalists and editors, as well as most of the academics, theoretically, want America to be a socialist country like the Europeans. Their equals. How ridiculous.
Historically Europeans have always felt superior. Militarily, let brutish America handle that when required… which was often. Look how Europe has progressed with Muslim immigrants who have adapted, or perhaps vice versa.
Indeed, I agree with Peter Worthington of Sun Media. “President did disservice to U.S. with condescending appeal to Muslims.” Furthermore, he wrote, “Stressing America’s ‘unbreakable’ bonds with Israel while pledging ‘we will not turn our backs’ on ‘the intolerable’ situation of Palestinians who endure ‘the daily humiliations that comes with occupation’ is grotesquely misleading.”
Obama blew speech Peter Worthington Columnists News …
6 Jun 2009 … The trouble with US President Barack Obama’s boffo speech in Cairo to the Muslim world was not what he said — but that he said it.
Does the imprudent president know the true history of the Palestinians rather than the propaganda by the Arab League? Is he aware that the leaders of the Palestinians (once Jordanians) tyrannical Haj Amin al-Husseini, diabolical, forked-tongue Yasser Arafat and his conspirator Abbas want the Israelis removed from what they insisted is their land, all of Israel? Obama should read Palestine Facts.
    http://www.palestinefacts.org/
Palestine Facts is dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate information regarding the historical, military, and political background to the on-going struggle between the State of Israel and the Palestinian Arabs. The situation is complex with deep and diverse roots. By using the resources of this large and growing site, you can become much more knowledgeable about what is going on and why.
Or maybe he does know and the Muslim Kenyan’s birth and Marxist-Socialist influence is unfolding. Allah-u-Akbar! Unions, workers, Islam will rule!
Obama’s portrait and statue with a Muslim headdress and robe will be greater than Lincoln’s (with or without top hat). This is part of the stimulus package.
    I’m stimulated. Are you?
Caroline Glick is a brilliant journalist and commentator. I have read her informative book, Shackled Warrior: Israel and the Global Jihad, and, of course, some might consider her to be bias… but I say so what and good for her and Israel.

  • Who Killed Jesus? 11/14/2010 at 5:19

I hope this post is not out of place, but I am trying spread awareness with regards to the double standards we see with Christianity and other religions at the moment. Now while I can understand that freedom of speech is crucial to our way of life and basic liberty, for some reason disrespect for religion, and particularly the in case of Christianity, is growing. One cannot openly criticize Islam yet criticism of Christianity is tolerated. Why is this? I can understand that people are going to have some sense of animosity, but is it too much to ask that people show some basic respect still? Outright blasphemy is very offensive and while you should be free to choose what you want to believe and practice there needs to be a limit on the level of disrespect shown It has started to reach epic proportions. There are all sorts of internet fads and memes, and the ones in particular that have sparked this general message are the LOL Jesus and Raptor Jesus internet memes. I ask that should someone forward these to you or you come across it that you inform those people how offensive this really is. Who Killed Jesus? Not Judas!

I heard it mentioned during his state of the union address, how Obama alluded to Tunisia and Egypt in a backhanded way – saying we support democracy everywhere people call for it.
