Entrapping Netanyahu

Negotiations between Likud and its coalition partners toward the formation of Israel's next government have only just begun. But the campaign to undermine the government-in-formation's ability to determine Israel's future course is already well underway.

Incoming Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu must understand the traps being set for him and their sources. And as he builds his government, he must appoint ministers capable of working with him to extricate Israel from those traps and discredit their sources.

On Thursday, US President Barack Obama's Middle East envoy George Mitchell arrived in Israel for his second visit. Whereas Mitchell's last visit – which took place in the last days of the electoral campaign – was touted as a "listening tour," Mitchell made clear that during his current stay, he intends to begin calling shots.

His first order of business, we are told, is to pressure the outgoing government to destroy the so-called outpost communities in Judea and Samaria and expel the hundreds of Israeli families who live in them. To defend this call for intra-Israeli instability and violence, Mitchell notes that Prime Minister Ehud Olmert gave his word to former president George W. Bush that he would destroy these communities.

Lest Israelis believe that Mitchell will drop this demand once Olmert leaves office, he has made clear that as far as he is concerned, Olmert's pledge was not his own – but Israel's. In Mitchell's view, it binds Netanyahu no less than Olmert. So if Olmert leaves office without having sent IDF soldiers to throw women and children from their homes, Mitchell, Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will feel free to pressure Netanyahu to take on the task, and to punish him if he refuses.

If the Obama administration believes that the presence of Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria is the primary obstacle to peace, then the Hamas regime in Gaza is the second greatest obstacle to peace. As long as Hamas, a recognized terror group, is in charge, the administration will be hard-pressed to push Israel to accept a Palestinian state.

To remedy this situation, the Obama administration has opted for a political fiction. The president and his aides have decided that a Hamas-Fatah government will moderate Hamas, and that therefore such a government will not only be legitimate, it is desirable. Whereas when the first Hamas-Fatah government formed in March 2007, the Bush administration refused to have anything to do with it, today the Obama administration is actively backing its reestablishment.

As the Obama administration apparently sees it, a Hamas-Fatah government will provide cover for stepped up pressure on Israel to surrender land to the Palestinians in Judea and Samaria, because Israel will no longer be able to claim that it has no Palestinian partner. A Hamas-Fatah government will also allow the US to directly support the Palestinians in Gaza, by coercing Israel to transfer full control over its borders with Gaza to Hamas (which will be represented by Fatah), and by enabling the US to provide direct aid to Palestinian Authority agencies in Gaza.

To advance the administration's efforts to legitimize Hamas, Clinton will begin her first visit to the region at a conference in Cairo on Monday that seeks to raise some $2.8 billion for Gaza. She will pledge nearly a third of that amount – $900 million – in the name of US taxpayers.

The administration claims that none of this money, which it plans to funnel through UNRWA, will go toward funding Hamas. But this contention is demonstrably false.

UNRWA openly collaborates with Hamas. Its workers double as Hamas combatants. Its refugee camps and schools are used as Hamas training bases and missile launch sites. Its mosques are used as recruiting grounds. And as UNRWA's willingness to transfer a letter from Hamas to US Sen. John Kerry during his visit to Gaza last week demonstrated, the UN agency is also willing to act as Hamas's surrogate.

While it makes sense for Hamas to agree to join a unity government that will leave it in charge of Gaza and expand its control to Judea and Samaria as well, on the surface it makes little sense for Fatah to agree to a deal that would subordinate it to the same forces who brutally removed it from power in Gaza in 2007. But Fatah has several good reasons to be enthusiastic about the deal.

First, by joining Hamas, Fatah will be able to get its hands on a considerable portion of the international aid money expected to pour into Gaza. Second, by joining Hamas, Fatah neutralizes – at least in the short term – Hamas's interest in destroying it as a political force in Palestinian society. Fatah leader Mahmoud Abbas's term in office as PA chairman expired last month. Were elections to be held today, he would lose a bid for reelection to Hamas's candidate by a wide margin. By joining a Hamas government, he will probably avoid the need to stand for reelection anytime soon.

For Israel, a US-supported Hamas-Fatah government is a hellish prospect. The political support such a government will lend to the terror war against Israel will be enormous. But beyond that, such a government, supported by the US, will likely cause Israel security nightmares.

As a goodwill gesture ahead of the opening of unity talks this week in Cairo, Fatah released the Hamas operatives its US-trained forces had arrested. Due to US pressure, over the past year, Israel allowed those forces to deploy in Jenin and Hebron, and in recent months they took some significant actions against Hamas operatives in those areas. Based on this record of achievement, Clinton and Mitchell have been pressuring Israel to transfer security control over all the Palestinian cities in Judea and Samaria to these forces.

But now that Fatah and Hamas are acting in concert, any such transfers of authority to Fatah will constitute a surrender of control to Hamas. While no Israeli government could accept such a demand, the Obama administration, which supports the Hamas-Fatah government, is likely to view Israel's refusal to continue to cooperate with Fatah as a reason to criticize Israel.

THE OBAMA administration's ability to disregard the will of the Israeli voters and the prerogatives of the incoming government owes a great debt to the legacy that the outgoing Olmert-Livni-Barak government is leaving behind.

The outgoing government set the conditions for the Obama administration's policies in three ways. First, by not defeating Hamas in Operation Cast Lead, and then agreeing to negotiate a cease-fire with the terror group, the government paved the way for Hamas's acceptance by the US and Europe as a legitimate political force.

Just as its willingness to conduct negotiations with Syria paved the way for the administration's current courtship of Iran's Arab client state, and its willingness to accept UN Security Council Resolution 1701placed Hizbullah on equal footing with Israel at the end of the Second Lebanon War, so, too, the outgoing government's willingness to negotiate with Hamas has facilitated the current US and European drive to accept the Iranian proxy as a legitimate political force in Palestinian society.

Second, since Hamas's electoral victory in January 2006, the outgoing government accepted the false narrative that the Palestinian people in Gaza, who freely voted Hamas into power and have supported its regime ever since, bear no responsibility for the consequences of their actions. This false distinction between Hamas's supporters and Hamas tied Israel's hands each time it was compelled to defend itself against Hamas's aggression. After all, if Gazans are all innocent, then Israel's primary responsibility should be to make sure that they are safe. And since its counterterror operations necessarily place them at risk, those operations are fair game for international condemnation.

Moreover, at the same time that Israel accepted the dishones
t distinction between Hamas and its supporters, it willingly took on responsibility for the welfare of Gaza residents. As Hamas shelled Sderot and Ashkelon and surrounding communities, Israel bowed to international pressure to supply its enemy and its enemy's supporters with food, medicine, fuel, water and anything else that Hamas and the West could reasonable or unreasonably claim fell under the rubric of humanitarian aid. Had Israel not accepted responsibility for a population that freely chose to be led by a group dedicated to its annihilation, today Clinton would be hard pressed to pressure Israel to open its border crossings into Gaza, or to justify giving $900m. to Gaza.

Finally, through its unlimited support for Fatah, the outgoing government has made it enormously difficult for the incoming government to explain its objections to the Obama administration's policies, either to the Israeli people or to the Americans themselves. By supporting Fatah, the Olmert-Livni-Barak government set up a false distinction between supposed moderates and supposed extremists. That distinction ignored and so legitimized Fatah's continued involvement in terrorism, its political war against Israel and its refusal to accept Israel's right to exist.

If Fatah is legitimate despite its bad behavior and bellicose ideology, then two things must be true. First, abstaining from terror can no longer be viewed as a precondition for receiving international legitimacy. And second, there is no reason not to accept Hamas. Based on the latter conclusion, many European leaders and Israeli leftists now openly call for conducting negotiations with Hamas. And based on the former conclusion, the Obama administration feels comfortable escalating its demands that Israel give land, security powers and money to Fatah, even as it unifies its forces with Hamas and so expands Hamas's power from Gaza to Judea and Samaria.

DUE TO the Olmert-Livni-Barak government's legacy, when it enters office the Netanyahu government will lack the vocabulary it needs to abandon Israel's current self-defeating course with the Palestinians and defend its actions to the international community in the face of the Obama administration's use of dishonest terms like "peace processes" and "moderates" and "humanitarian aid" to constrain Israel's ability to defend itself. To surmount these challenges, Netanyahu must move immediately to change the terms of debate on the Palestinian issue.

Despite his great rhetorical gifts, Netanyahu cannot change the terms of international debate by himself. He needs two seasoned public figures who understand the nature of these challenges at his side. If Netanyahu appoints Natan Sharansky foreign minister and Moshe "Bogie" Ya'alon defense minister, he will have the top-level support he needs to overcome his predecessors' legacy and change the nature of contemporary discourse on the Palestinians and on Israel's strategic significance to the West in the face of staunch opposition from Washington.

Like Netanyahu, Sharansky and Ya'alon understand the basic dishonesty of the current international conversation relating to the Palestinians. Both men have come out publicly against the false policy paradigms that have guided both the outgoing government and the US and Europe. Both are capable of working with Netanyahu to free Israel from the policy trap being set for him.

Excellent analysis. I’m ashamed that Obama and his people seem to have taken it upon themselves to weaken Israel’s position in the name of “peace.” This is the same sort of appeasement that has been tried unsuccessfully countless times, now masquerading as a “change.” Obama’s naivety (if in fact it is only that) that guides his hope-for-the-best policies is stunning, and a bit unbeleivable. I’m afraid that Netanyahu will have his work cut out for him whether the policy trap is recognized and addressed or not.

Incoming Prime Minister Netanyahu must keep Kadima out of the coalition because it will make it harder for him to lead. When Mr. Netanyahu assumes the premiership, he needs to renegotiate the agreements that Prime Minister Olmert made with the PLO and the US. Mr. Netanyahu must ensure that Israel is not pressured into making unwise concessions that will destabilize security. Finally, the US and Israel have enjoyed a special relationship that has endured many years. And Israel must take the “high road” and vigorously defend its interests.

There is one thing we are all forgetting here: Europe’s economy is melting down, and with the deep structural inefficiencies of the welfare state permanenty entrenched, Europe has nowhere to go but down down down, there will soon be widespread rioting and political instability. Hardly the kind of economic climate able to sustain their pet Arab insurgency projects. (and if there is anyone in Israel who still thinks the Europeans are your friends, and not engaged in a Cold War with you, you need your head read!) Obama will soon himself be mired in the swamp of economic misery he created by borrowing all this money the US can never pay back (essentially he is now printing near record amounts of money in US term as a percentage of his GDP), and his administration will be severely hampered by the protectionism he is about to introduce. (A dropping US dllar is just protectionism in another form). The US dollar is about to collapse, and with it the world economy is going into the shark tank. (Don’t believe Indian and Chinese economists who predict they are insulated from the US economy. That is pure bollocks, and there are already food riots in China, and fears of a looming drought – 1931 anyone?).
The Iranians are teetering on the verge of banrkuptcy, and the Saudis’ obsession with Religious Imperialism has left them utterly bereft of skilled economists. The beauty of Islam is ultimately that if followed to the letter, political Islam is rendered morally and economically bankrupt in quite spectacularly short time frames. This is why Islamic empires are so short-lived.
I take hope from the fact that there was no Northern Front opened during Cast Lead, and the reason is that old Napoleonic dictum – “an Army marches on its stomach”. The Iranians are outta cash – I mean they barely functioned back when oil was at $130 a barrel, I can’t imagine how they are going to cope now. Elections are coming, and the young people are getting fed up with the Islamic workers’ paradise…
The bottom line is – you need vast quantities of cash to fund Arab wars (ostensibly because being Islamic purists, they are so bad at it). That cash is drying up. I don’t doubt they’ll get pretty uppity at being left outta the loop, but Hamas and Fatah have never really understood economics, and the next 10 years are ging to be all about the global economy. They will find after they fire another round of missiles, and the IDF rips them a new one, that the next bailout and rebuilding package isn’t going to be nearly as much as the last one.
Yay for economics. Understand it or fade away…

Caroline, I trust a majority of Israelis and American Jews read and understand just what a mess the outgoing government left for the incoming administration to deal with.
First of all, forgive me for repeating myself. The U.S. does not have the right to middle in the affairs of Israel. Any aid provided to Israel is and should be the result of Israel being a good friend and a democracy.
Friends don’t tell friends what to do. Besides, any aid is not contingent upon complying with directive from this or any administration.
There seems to be more concern for the Palestinians and Hamas than for our real and trusted friend Israel.
Listen, the track record of both the PA and Hamas is not exactly nothing to write home about. Yet they never cease to amaze me how they gather such support from the U.S. and other countries.
Do I suspect anti-Semitism could be an underlying factor? I would hope not. Please tell me I am wrong.
Forget about abandoning any portions of Judea and Samaria, if anything this territory belongs to the Jews, period.
Caroline you’re right Netanyahu needs full support from every party to form a government capable of standing up to those who feel they can dictate their terms for peace.
Mitchell and Hillary need to be put in their place right up front. Mitchell is a guy who ran around accomplishing nothing more than and overstated and inflated resume.
Hillary has very little to show for as a Senator, and she was left standing at the altar by the liberal left media.
Time has come for the Jewish Nation to stand tall and don’t give into demands from outsiders.
It’s a damn shame the American Jews don’t have enough guts to stand up for Israel their Land of Return.

I am keeping my fingers crossed Caroline. The poster “bcf” offered a glimmer of hope. Israel’s adversaries (including the USA) might be too broke to make mischief in the near future.
To keep up with things Israeli I read you and Yoni the blogger. Yoni isn’t optimistic and reminds us that Bibi has given up land for peace in the past. I hope Bibi has wised up since then. Yoni also points out that Lieberman has expressed support for a Palestine state in Samaria and Judea in an article he wrote in “Jewish Week”. Is this guy really a conservative???????
This is very simple. If Israel wants to survive it will simply have to ignore the rest of the world and do what it has to do.

    Ms. Glick,
there was a wise old man who once said: “The enemy of my enemy is my friend”. And there was another wise old man who once said: “Arabs never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity”. The first wise old man was an unknown Arab – one must give Arabs some credit, sometimes. The second wise old man was a well-known Jew and Israeli: Abba Eban – one must give Jews and Israelis some credit, sometimes.
Barack Obama is the most radical American President the world has ever seen. The course of action he has chosen to take, both politically and economically, is also the most anti-American, anti-capitalist and anti-Western the world has ever witnessed coming from an American Administration. And it is also the most anti-Israeli. By embarking in an unstoppable, uncontrollable, unbridled, above all unfounded government spending, and especially in electing to side against the axioms of capitalism, this Administration has opened up its flank.
A USD 3.6 trillion Federal Budget for fiscal 2010, a USD 634 billion reserve fund for national health care, a USD 750 billion bailout money for the practical nationalization of banks and a projected deficit of USD 1.2 trillion in 2010, all combined make it for a potent recipe for financial suicide. And how does Obama plan to pay for all this? With tax hikes, tax hikes and more tax hikes.
This is not only inequitable for a large portion of Americans. It is outright dangerous. Obama with the stroke of a pen and in less than a month has changed the federal balance sheet so much, that this financial turmoil is no longer an economic strain with the potential of degenerating into a recession. There is the very real and concrete risk that in the face of all this borrowing and spending the rest of the world – especially India and China – may decide that the Dollar is not worth very much, and this may cause a run on the greenback, which may very well wipe out the savings of Middle America. India and China have an aggregate total of USD 2 trillion in foreign exchange reserves, and have subsidized American foreign debt for years by purchasing US Treasury backed securities. Add another USD 500 billion held by Japan. That’s a total of USD 2.5 billion, which means that Obama’s Federal Budget for fiscal 2010 is unsecured to the tune of USD 1.1 trillion – assuming of course that China and India will continue to play the role of benevolent partners of the United States. American taxpayers are not going to be able to cover the gap, and there is already reason to believe that we are going to see an influx of capital and an exodus of capitalists coming here into Canada. There is also reason to believe that you will see the same coming your way in Israel.
The wealthiest 5 percent of Americans that pay 40 percent of all income taxes are not going to stay idle in the face of a 9 percent Federal Income Tax hike plus loss of allowable capital gains deductions, which are going to add a hefty 20 percent to the tax base they already pay. Mr. Barack Obama may very well want to redistribute wealth, but he will have to make do with the riches of Nancy Pelosi and of Diane Feinstein, themselves both multi-millionaires.
Add to this the fact that America’s oil vulnerability has been back-burnered due to the economic crisis and the plunge in gasoline prices. In fact America’s oil vulnerability in recent months has escalated precisely because of oil’s precipitous drop to USD 35 to USD 40 per barrel. At that price, America’s most stable supplier, once again Canada, which supplies some 2 million out of 20 million barrels of oil a day, cannot afford to produce. Canadian oil sand petroleum in Northern Alberta is not viable below USD 70 a barrel, due to extraction costs. Much of Canada’s supply progress has already been cancelled or indefinitely postponed. America’s strategic petroleum reserve can only keep the United States moving for approximately 57 days. The Obama Administration, like the Bush Administration before it, has developed no plan or contingency legislation for an oil interruption, such as a surge in retrofitting America’s 250 million gas guzzling cars and trucks – each with a ten year life span – or a stimulus for the alternative fuel production needed to rapidly get off oil.
As an increase in oil to the tune of USD 130 to USD 135 per barrel like last Summer would send the economy into a conundrum of apocalyptic proportions this Administration, unlike its predecessor, has come up with a rather ingenious plan to satify America’s energy needs by trying to appease not only the Arabs, but also the one state that could cause the Arabs harm: Iran. The Islamic Republic could today launch its missiles against the Ras Tanura gulf oil terminal and against the indispensable Saudi oil facility at Abqaiq, which is responsible for some 65 percent of Saudi production. Either one of these military options would immediately shut off 40 percent of all seaborne oil, 18 percent of global oil, and some 20 percent of America’s daily consumption.
So, in order to appease the Arabs and the Iranians, Obama is selling America’s soul by weakening its military in Iraq, by bowing to Russia’s blackmail to close the US Air Force base at Manas in Kyrgyzstan thus jeopardizing the safety of the American forces in Afghanistan, by insisting to talk with the Mullahs even when the Mullahs do not want to talk to him, by acquiescing to the Taliban taking over the Swat Valley in Pakistan, by embracing Hamas as a legitimate negotiating partner behind the puppet figure of Abbas and, ultimately, by selling Israel.
Israelis are being sold by this Administration. Sold like cattle. They don’t care in Washington about the settlements in Judea and Samaria – heck, they couldn’t find Judea and Samaria in an atlas. If they could sell Tel Aviv to make the Arabs happy, they’d do it in a heartbeat too. Anything to keep the price of oil down. At least before Israel could count on the respect of George W. Bush, for whatever it was worth. But certainly not now from Obama.
All of which then brings me back to the first wise old man, and the dictum “The enemy of my enemy is my friend”. Think of how quickly the matter of Judea and Samaria would be back-burnered, if suddenly Israel were to make political overtures to India and especially to China. Both mega-nations are dying to have a say in the Middle East, as they are both increasingly dependent upon oil and as they both fear a nuclear Iran and an already nuclear Pakistan increasingly out of control. The Middle East presents the Chinese leadership in particular with vast opportunities to fulfill its growing energy needs and to profit from massive weapons sales irrespective of regional instability. Besides, they would love to put their hands on Israeli technology and know-how. And whereas in fact China in the past has entertained undiscriminating and opulent oil and gas transactions with Iran’s radical leaders, as well as with Syria, all this may very well change in the wake on an ever aggressive and restive Iran on the verge of becoming nuclear.
The Middle East currently provides over 45 percent of China’s total oil imports. By 2015, 70 percent of China’s oil imports are expected to come from the region. China sees its new diplomatic clout in the Middle East as a geopolitical counterweight to the United States. As such, China is bound to view with great suspicion any overture of the Administration to engage Syria and Iran. Israel could bank on those suspicions, with regard to both the United States and Europe, all the more so since China in all practicality owns the US Treasury and holds the reins of America’s economic recovery. For this reason the more Israel threatens to destabilize the Middle East, the more this Administration will come to Israel’s feet. This is a path that has been proven correct by Iran already.
And for this reason Israel needs to reconsider also its long-standing policy of nuclear ambiguity, by conducting a test so as to prove to everybody, especially to false friends, who’s really calling the shots.
Bottom line is that this Administration is out there to prove that love does not last forever, and Israel should stop acting as if it is in love all alone. Mutual respect is at the foundation of any relationship, in the absence of which there is no point for the relationship to last. All things come to an end, but then tomorrow is another day that may bring new opportunities, new alliances, new friendships. The balance of power in the world is rapidly shifting, with an America that is poised to become only the shadow of its former self for many years to come.
Time has come for Israel to discover new frontiers and consider new alternatives.
    Regards,

This is the day that the idol worshiping idiots who rule Israel decided to end the war in Gaza before they defeated Hamas .
The reason was to give the new president of the U.S. a peaceful inaguration and feel good about Israel.
This stupidity of failing to defeat Hamas will bring much suffering to Israel just as their failure to defeat Hizbollah will also bring.
There is not peace on the horizion for godless idiots who embrace defeat and retreat and always appease their enemies.
The two state solution is an abomination to the Holy One of Israel as are all who stand with this evil.

In the meantime appoint a special minister for peace, and foist Mitchell off on that person.

You say that Netanyahu will lack the necessary terminology, etc. Another columnist in the Jerusalem Post recently made the same point, but I unfortunately cannot remember who.
Orwellian Newspeak is alive and well in the media reports surrounding Israel (http://michaelmakovi.blogspot.com/2009/02/orwell-alive-and-well-in-middle-east.html). What makes Livni centrist, Netanyahu right, Lieberman nationalistic, Fatah moderate, and Kahanism racist? Terminology; it’s all terminology. The media could just as well label Livni a spaghettist and Netanyahu a fetuccinist, for all the value (not to mention accuracy!) these labels have.

If Israel is of a mind to commit national suicide then allowing itself to be ordered about by the likes of Barack Obama, George Mitchell and Hillary Clinton will accomplish this in short order. This troika is counting on Israel’s voluntary sanction to allow Hamas to continue to exist and to ignore the mayhem it creates on Israel’s borders.
A good portion of the blame for Israel’s predicament is Israel’s own fault. As you pointed if Hamas had been eradicated during Operation Cast Lead, Obama would have been deprived of a major pressure point to use against Israel. Israel would have presented the United States with a fait accompli. Bush and Obama would have had no choice but to accept it. Without a doubt everyone involved in the conflict, Israelis, Americans and even the Palestinians would have been much better off if this had happened.
Far too many Israelis and Americans have absolved the Palestinians who voted for and support Hamas of any responsibility for these acts. They are as guilty as the Hamas operatives who are launching the rockets into Israel and no special consideration for their safety is warranted. To send food, shelter or medicine to these Palestinians during war is completely immoral. It is nothing less than aiding and abetting the enemy.
What most people do not realize is that defeating an enemy’s armed forces is not tantamount to an unconditional surrender. The cost of the war must be brought home to the civilians that supported that war. Defeating Hamas in battle is not enough to secure the peace. All traces of Hamas influence must be rooted out of Gaza and the population subdued. Obviously this did not happen during Operation Cast Lead. Hamas was bloodied and bruised but not eradicated. More importantly, the Gaza population was spared the costs of war and remained defiant. Hamas is back to rocketing Israel again. Nothing has changed.
Netanyahu has written two books on how to deal with terrorism. He knows what must be done with Hamas even if he has not been very clear about it in public. It remains to be seen whether or not he has the will and the integrity to resist the minions of the Obama administration and to take decisive unilateral action against the enemies of Israel.

    Dear Ms. Glick,
in reference to your recent post on Durban II, I read on the Jewish Telegraphic Agency that the US has decided to boycott the forthcoming conference. The basis of this decision is the patently obvious discrimination and anti-Semitism present in the preparatory draft, which seeks to compare Zionism with Apartheid.
While this decision does not change my views on the policies and fiscal irresponsibility of this Administration, nevertheless I am thrilled to find a single point of agreement.

Caroline please convey to PM Netanyahu to be firm with Obama and his delegation.
Israel does not have to alter or deviate from their position with respects to the Palestinian issue and Gaza. Stand firm, Israel is not going to be sacrificed in an effort to appease any Arab state or group.
In addition, Israel should not relinquish any territory or vacate any sites in Samaria or Judea, this land belongs to Israel.
Don’t forget the position Obama is taking does not in anyway shape or form reflect the attitude of the American people. Let them know it.
The US does not or can afford to loose Israel a good and trusted friend.
Any aid provided to Israel has been paid back many times over, the cost to maintain a democracy and maintaining stability in the Middle East.
Think of all the funds provided the Palestinians without producing any results. Hamas was the benefactor.

Israel so easily led about by the ring in her nose and cannot say no to her destroyers because of the sin of idolatry.
Every Jew who went along with the U.S. led 2 state Road Map is the modern face of the faithless 10 spies and the majority who died in the midbar.
God tests His people and Israel ran to another for peace instead of Him and this is why Israel is cooking in a boiling stew.
Israel’s sin of placing her hope and faith in the U.S for peace instead of obeying Hashem(Exodus 23:27-33) has led to this disaster. The extermination process we know as the Road Map has been very bad for Israel because idolatry always leads to disaster.
America is not your God, Israel.
Stop giving this reprobate nation more honor than you do to Him.

    Wrong:
The US does not or can afford to loose Israel a good and trusted friend.
    Please note correction:
The US cannot afford to loose Israel a good and trusted friend.
    Old saying haste makes waste.

Marcel, as an American, I agree 100% with what you just said. In fact reprobate is too soft a word.

I have a question. (Forgive my ignorance, I’ve only been an Israeli for 14 years.) Mrs. Glick suggested Mr. Sharansky for Foreign Minister. But he is not in the Knesset now, is he? Can the PM appoint non-Knesset members to be ministers? Can someone tell me the laws and/or customs about this?
